AMD history
AMD was founded in 1969 by Jerry Sanders and other engineers at Fairchild Computers. If your name sounds familiar to you, it's because Fairchild Computers also produced engineers who left the company to found Intel. The name comes from AMD from the following Advances Micro Devices («Advanced Micro Devices" in English). They started developing memory chips and evolved into the microprocessor market competing with Intel. They were proposed as the alternative to Intel for companies and thus not depend entirely on a single manufacturer.

In the early 2000s they had quite a bit of commercial success with the Athlon and Opteron series processors, as they were cheaper and more accessible than Intel's. They also started manufacturing graphics cards with the Radeon R200. But in the late 2000s and early 2010s, AMD lagged behind Intel because they couldn't keep up with them in manufacturing processors. With the arrival of their Ryzen series of consumer desktop processors, they managed to recover in the late 2010s. It helped them a lot that the Ryzen CPU models were designed to perform better in more professional segments such as business applications or home computing. cloud thanks to its Zen architecture.

In October 2008, they teamed up with the Abu Dhabi government's Advanced Technology Investment Co. to create the GlobalFoundries foundry, so that AMD's parent company could focus purely on chip design. In 2012, they acquired low-power server maker SeaMicro. October 2020 was when they began the acquisition of Xlilinx, an American technology and semiconductor company that mainly supplied programmable logic devices; and its purchase was completed in 2022.

AMD has been very characterized by its processors, but it also had a presence in the flash memory sectors, and has entered the graphics card sector under the Radeon brand. They manufacture RAM memories under the Radeon brand for the Eastern European market, and since 2014 they have sold SSDs manufactured by OCZ, but for a very small market.
