Review: Antec HCP-1300 Platinum power supply

We analyze the Antec HCP-1300 Platinum power supply, a power supply with great efficiency and performance.

An element as important as the processor or the graphics card is the power supply. This must be able to give voltage to the entire system, they must do so in a stable way and also protect against electrical problems. Antec knows about all this and for this reason it develops a high quality power supply. We have received the Antec HCP-1300 Platinium for analysis. A power supply designed for overclocking and that even has the ability to operate in tandem.

General characteristics of the Antec HCP-1300 Platinium

The first thing that we must highlight about this power supply is that it offers us a power of 1300W. It is 80Plus Platinum certified, which guarantees us an efficiency of 94%. This is important as we ensure that energy waste is minimal.

You can operate this power supply at the US voltage of 110V @ 50Hz and at the European voltage of 240V @ 60Hz. It has a voltage tolerance of ± 10% and has active PFC. The input current of the power supply at 110V is 15A and the current at 240V is 7A.

Something that has caught our attention about this power supply is that it has four 12V rails. It is not at all common something like this, usually finding one or two lanes. This has an explanation and is to protect the components of our system to the maximum. If one fails, it will only affect the elements installed at this point, protecting the rest of the components. If the processor lane were to fail, for example, we would protect the graphics card, storage units and other components outside of this lane.

Other outstanding elements is that it has 100% Japanese capacitors to guarantee remarkable efficiency. What these capacitors guarantee is stability and minimum ripple in direct current. To cool the system, a 135mm double bearing fan has been integrated. It is not specified if it is 0dB or what is the same, it does not activate the fan until a certain consumption.

A curious element is the OC Link technology. This technology allows you to connect two Platinum power supplies of the same power. It may seem like a nonsense, but a high-performance system, for extreme overclocking or for cryptocurrency mining systems.

In case something is missing from this power supply, it features a PhaseWave design which is a server-class, full-bridge LLC design with a synchronous cooling system based on a DC-DC topology.

Protections of the Antec HCP-1300 Platinium

This power supply has the following protections for any type of failure

  • Overcurrent Protection (OCP)
  • Surge Protection (OVP)
  • Low Voltage Protection (UVP)
  • Short Circuit Protection (SCP)
  • Overload Protection (OPP)
  • Blackout Protection (BOP)
  • Protection against no-load operations (NLO)
  • Overvoltage and interruption protection (SIP)

Antec HCP-1300 Platinium Cables

It has all the necessary wiring to connect all types of components. This power supply is completely modular and uses Stealth-type cables. This means that they have a special coating for minimal visibility within the system. It has the following cables:

  • 1x 20 + 4 pin connector
  • 1x EPS 8V 12-pin connector
  • 9x SATA connectors
  • 6x Molex connectors
  • 1x Floppy connector
  • 1x 4 + 4 ATX EPS connector
  • 1x OC Link connector
  • 10x 6 + 2 PCIe connectors

Conclusion

The Antec HCP-1300 Platinum power supply as it could not be otherwise is quality. Everything in this power supply has been taken into account, especially the four 12V lines. This guarantees that the rest of the components are protected against any incident. The high efficiency which also allows us to save on electricity consumption, being more respectful with the environment.

Unnecessary elements, such as RGB lighting, have been eliminated and focused on a product of extreme quality. What's more, being able to connect two power supplies and act as one is unheard of. For systems that are going to integrate a large number of graphics, for extreme overclocking or for cryptocurrency mining, this is the ideal power supply.

We would like to highlight the quality of the tensions and the precision of the same. All except the -12V path have a tolerance of 3%, which guarantees a very stable voltage and a ripple of less than 35mW. Ripple or electrical noise is especially critical when operating on small voltages. It could cause damage or degradation of components if it is too high.
