Mars Gaming MNBC6 Laptop Cooling Base – Review

The native cooling of laptops has improved a lot since its inception, with better cooling systems and more resistance to adverse elements such as dust, lint or breadcrumbs. But we cannot ignore that the systems may deteriorate with use, or that normal laptop cooling may be insufficient now that they're getting a boost from high-end gaming GPUs that increase temperatures considerably. Although within safe margins for the components, quite uncomfortable for the user, with which a laptop cooling base like the MNBC6 from Mars Gaming that we analyze today, is postulated as an accessory that video game fans who play in PC, they will consider to lengthen their gaming sessions.

And it is that sometimes it happens that, although the cooling itself keeps the CPU and graphics at bay, the native heat is transferred to the laptop and with it, we are playing with a laptop with high temperatures. It is uncomfortable. For these cases there is this Mars Gaming MNBC6 laptop cooling base. It is not a substitute for cooling, but it easily helps keep the laptop in general from reaching those temperatures. It also keeps you away from harmful elements on the table, and serves as a stand to improve ergonomics and position of the screen.

We thank Mars Gaming for giving us the product for review

Unboxing

Mars Gaming's MNBC6 laptop cooling pad is thus presented to consumers. No laptop that suggests what it is for at first glance, but promoting additional features such as RGB, or the support it has for the tablet or smartphone to act as an auxiliary screen.

Already in the back enter the most technical data. Ten ARGB lighting modes, seven ergonomic positions, and up to 5V consumption powered by an 800 milliamp battery. It is a low consumption, for what it is an aid to basic laptop cooling.

When in doubt, this Mars Gaming MNBC6 cooling pad does not have a direct USB connection to the laptop. Power comes from plugging into a plug. It has a battery that is charged with its own cable and adapter and does not connect to the laptop itself.

Design

The design of the MNBC6 cooling base from Mars Gaming is presented with that gamign style that was imposed. corners and details versus the base design. This makes the area it occupies considerably larger than it should be, although it could well be useful for larger laptops, even if they are no longer carried.

The area dimensions are almost 42 cm long and 30 cm wide, whether you like it or not, it is a considerable size. For a laptop, that's a lot of space and close to what Alienware-style gaming laptops took up a decade ago. The ever-smaller form factor of laptops is in part because users have to go for something that takes up little space on the table because a tower is a lot of dedicated space that can be transferred to the keyboard and mouse.

With all of this, the cooling base can be considered great, but it's not something that's going to destroy everyone's setup. But some users could be limited if they have many other items on the table and it is not a table exclusively for the computer. At least, it is logical to think that one will take time to get used to it, like someone who changes from a normal keyboard to a TKL.

One of the additions that we highlight the most is that the base itself includes a small bracket that connects to cutouts on each side of the base. It serves to place the mobile or tablet, and thus we can be multitasking or multiscreen in a simple way. For example, we can put the mobile with data to consult from a website such as a Wikia of a game or a video guide. Very surely one ends up giving it many uses, with what

Without detracting from the manufacturing, it is really simple. If we already want to choose to do something to the next level and use two additional screens, then there is the idea of making a 3D print of the support. But this is something that we dropped to give the base a little more versatility, even though it is something as simple as a plastic support.

The support for tablets or smartphones is one of those trifles that we like, because we look at details and think of use cases. It allows easy multitasking separated with a second screen, and that you do not drop your mobile.

The base has two USB connectors to charge devices such as mobile phones, or wireless keyboards and mice. It is a help that is appreciated, since laptops by themselves usually have very few USB connectors due to space issues, and priority should be given to what is essential. Having a charging base is much appreciated when a USB port to charge without having to resort to hubs, sockets and plugs is a very welcome addition.

Assembled, the cooling base is noticeable. Either because of the RGB or its mesh that allows the background to be seen, it is clear that it will remain as part of our setup. In this, the RBG at least helps to give it personality, with preset styles. It would have been very appreciated if they could be customized in case one color suits us better.

The fact that it has several tilt positions gives us a lot of ergonomics. They not only slightly tilt the laptop and thus the keyboard for a better hand position, but also they also raise the screen so that it is closer to the natural height of the eyes, so as not to tilt the head or look down.

It should be said that it is also a support that can be used for much more. For example, as a bookstand for a campaign manager a RPG like Dungeons and Dragons, although it would suit a game like Cyberpunk Red better. This is a small annex that we put. We don't think anyone would consider buying this cooling base because of this. But it is always good to think of additional uses, in addition to the basic one, to take advantage of what one has.

With everything assembled, this is how it looks with the ASUS TUF Dash F15. A laptop with a gaming nature that benefits from having extra cooling. It has both a high-end CPU, RAM and graphics card, to be used in games with high graphics and processing capacity. With all this, it is a perfect candidate to be used as a test.

Mars Gaming MNBC6 Laptop Cooling Pad Cooling Test

To perform this test, we put the ASUS TUF Dash F15 on for about an hour in each use case, running Cyberpunk 2077, a game that can be considered demanding. We would have tried pure benchmarks, but we seek above all a real gaming experience, which is what this base is about. No benchmarks that last a few minutes and that's it, or a stress test.

Although the temperatures remain stable without this cooling base, the truth is that over time you begin to notice that the heat arrives. It is not surprising, because we have set a high graphic quality, playing for more than an hour, and like it or not, heat begins to accumulate in the external materials, without reaching the critical closure. In the arms or hands the heat was noticeable, which easily becomes uncomfortable during the summer days.

Now, with the cooling base, after about two hours of use using the same settings, we did notice that the air that came out was cooler, and it did not reach a temperature to the touch that was close to being uncomfortable. Although, we must bear in mind that it is at the cost of having a little more noise, and of sacrificing some space on the table, if we are very sensitive to losing said space on small tables.

Experience and conclusion

With all this, we are happy with the operation of this cooling base. At the cost of some additional noise, if we are sensitive to it, makes gaming sessions more comfortable to play on a laptop in graphically intense games and thus the components suffer less. We see it as an accessory that every gaming laptop is going to have to get. Either because the components begin to have minor faults that compromise the cooling, or so that they do not wear out and thus last longer.

Clearly some table space is going to be wasted. But it makes up for it with small additional features such as support for tablets and mobile phones and that elevates the laptop to more comfortable viewing and ergonomic postures. We believe that, with the additional cost of repairing laptops being closed systems and compact, a base that helps keep components in good condition by helping with cooling, it is always recommended. We highly recommend it for when you're buying a laptop, even if it's a Chromebook.

We also recommend it mainly for comfort when playing. If you are going to spend long sessions, even with games with little graphic capacity and the laptop keyboard is how you play, It will be appreciated that it takes longer to feel uncomfortable due to the heat itself. Now that summers are expected to get hotter and longer, a laptop cooling pad like the MCBN6 from Mars Gaming is postulated as a mandatory complement for gamers who use laptops and play all year round.

Finally, there is its use as a lectern itself. Seven positions to have the screen in a better position for the eyes, and the hands in a more ergonomic one, is always positive. In addition, its additional functions to charge mobiles or have support for an additional screen, and that we will surely try to recreate this support in a 3D printer, are additions that we like and that can make us prefer this model compared to a more traditional base.

  • Good ability to keep a gaming quality laptop at bearable temperatures.
  • RGB effects are appreciated.
  • USB ports for device charging.
  • The tablet or smartphone accessory would be easily replicable with a 3D printer so that both compartments can be used at the same time if needed.
  • Seven positions that provide ergonomics and increase the height of the screen to suit the user.
  • Very attractive price for what can help extend the life of a laptop.
  • Considerably increases the area used for the laptop, so it is not ideal for those who use a laptop due to lack of space for a tower.
  • Somewhat noisy at its highest powers.
  • Only one add-on for the tablet included in the package.
