Laptops for games, or for gaming, depending on what you prefer to call it, are one of the niches in which Alienmware, Dell's gaming firm, has specialized. One of its most recent models is the Alienware M15 R3 laptop, which we have been able to test and put to the test to see if it meets the expectations of a gaming laptop.

The layout is perfectly clean and helpful. At only 15 inches, it is not a bulky laptop and weighs just over two kilos. A weight equivalent to carrying two packages of legumes in your backpack or bag, in case you want to test how much it will weigh at home. That makes it especially easy to take on trips and not cumbersome to take from home to work or to a coffee shop. In this second case, it would be with the condition that it will be used without a charger because it is quite large.

Some details that we like are the RGB lights on the keyboard, customizable and of various colors, so we will not have to get another keyboard if the lights on the keys are imperative for us. Also that the laptop warns us with external lights if it is on or not, perfect to make sure that we have not accidentally left it in sleep mode.

Alienware M15 R3 Technical Specifications

Put to the test with Benchmarks and games

To put the Alienware M15 R3 to the test, we have tested its capabilities with different benchmarks from various games and programs to test its graphics capabilities.

As we can see, the laptop is capable of playing a demanding game without problems such as Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 1080 and DirectX 12 doubled the expected 60 FPS. Where we see that it can go down a bit is when it is put in resolutions higher than 1440p and with the RTX. But it is not something that will happen to us if we are not going to connect a monitor.

The Alienware M15 R3 lives up to a lot of expectations, but falls short when high graphics demands are placed on it. For your 1080p display or connecting to a standalone monitor of the same resolution, it is ideal. And at a price of around € 2, having all this in a small and mobile space, which can be used to edit videos and play games in high graphic capacities, is a good value for money.

On the other hand, there are drawbacks such as the fans that can make a lot of noise in demanding games. On the other hand, we already mentioned it in the design section, but since it also affects the point of autonomy, we mention it and that is that the bulky size of the charger makes it less portable if you have to carry it with you to make up for the limited autonomy of the laptop.

The Alienware M15 R3 is a pretty good model for those who want a gaming laptop that will safely move many modern titles and in the near future. It is a good option within the price range of € 2. Its two main drawbacks are that it will not be a great experience playing in 000K, and that the battery is especially short.

More than a laptop in the strict sense, it is a powerful terminal to play all the news on PC in several years and easy to move around the home or office seeing that it is ready to have a direct connection to the internet. The specifications are very good for a laptop of that price, and the problems we have are minor and being excessively demanding thinking that it is a laptop that we are going to use to play modern games.

  • Powerful enough to move ambitious 1440p games smoothly.
  • One of the laptops that offers us the most in relation to quality / price.
  • It is lighter than other high-end gaming laptops.
  • It allows you to expand your graphic capacity with external accessories.
  • Direct connection to modem to not depend on Wi-Fi.
  • The screen can go up to 300Hz if games allow it.
  • The fans sound a lot in fairly demanding games.
  • It is not quite ready to connect to a 4K monitor without falling below 30 FPS in demanding games.
  • It supports Raytracing, but falls short of 30 FPS in our tests.
  • The battery lasts very little.
  • The charger is very large.
