Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black - Review

Efficiently cooling a processor is important, above all, to extend its life. Noctua is a renowned fan and heatsink manufacturer that is updating its products to modern times. The company, among others, offers the Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black, in black. An update of the classic designs but adapted to more modern colors or at least, friendlier than the classic earth tones.

Unboxing Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black

We start with the box, which retains a small touch of brown, although it turns completely black. Leave aside the brown boxes with a white stripe to move on to a representative design of the new range. And it is that Noctua has finally decided to listen to users who asked for colors more in line with the color palette of modern hardware.

We can find on one of the sides of this box the specifications of the Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black heatsink. The good thing about this heatsink is that it is updated in color, but it still has the same characteristics as the 'old' model. It lacks RGB lighting, something we will all appreciate.

Inside we find a box with the necessary anchoring systems for Intel and AMD processors. Later you have all the sockets that are supported by this heatsink. It includes the LNA cable that reduces the working speed of the fan and the loudness. A syringe of NT-H1 thermal paste is also added.

Finally, how could it be otherwise, we found the heatsink. The heatsink, in this case, is already mounted on the fin block. Two additional anchoring irons are included in the box in case we want to install another fan.

The only real difference between this Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black and the Noctua NH-U12S is the heatsink tower and fan colors. The Noctua NH-U12S has a simply chrome tower and the fan is in earth tones. For the chromax.black model, from Noctua, they have opted to paint it completely black.

The fan is adjustable in height and another fan could be installed if we want. Inside the box we will find the irons to install another heatsink if we want. Regarding the tower with aluminum fins, it offers great density and is crossed by five copper heatpipes.
Features Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black

We see that the contact surface with the processor IHS is nickel plated. This has been done to achieve a surface that is as flat and flawless as possible. From this point the heatpipes start that will distribute the heat through the dissipation fins.

The fan has a self-stabilizing oil pressure (SSO2) cushion system. This bearing system is highly silent and has been subjected to very tough stress tests. It combines the concept of hydrodynamic bearings, Noctua's SSO bearing that guarantees precision and at the same time extends the longevity of conventional ball bearings.

Conclusion
This Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black heatsink is a design update on the classic model. It does not really add new, except aesthetics and the most modern anchors. Although it really seems very simple, it has a really spectacular performance that it can with any gaming processor. In addition, with this new black patina it will go unnoticed in any modern gaming equipment.
We always recommend air cooling for the processor and this is a great solution. Air heatsink maintenance is easier, they are quieter, and they are easier to install. In addition, if we want to add customization, Noctua sells rubber corners for the heatsinks, being able to add a little customization.
