Cougar Attack X3 RGB Unboxing

Cougar Attack X3 RGB mechanical keyboard front case

We started the review of this keyboard from the box, specifically from the front. Here we can see the keyboard that stands out against a dark background. It is indicated to us that it has a Polling Rate of 1000Hz, RGB lighting and Cherry mechanical switches.

Cougar Attack X3 RGB mechanical keyboard back box

If we turn it around, in the back we find the main features of this keyboard highlighted. We must emphasize that this keyboard is in four versions of Cherry switches, but in our case they are the MX Red. It also talks about the configuration and customization of the RGB, in addition to other information of interest.

Inside the box we find the keyboard and a small user manual. The keyboard is protected by a plastic bag, which is quite unnecessary to tell the truth. We believe that the less plastic is used, the better.

Cougar Attack X3 RGB design

Cougar Attack X3 RGB mechanical keyboard at a glance

We can see that this Cougar Attack X3 RGB keyboard has a considerable size. Something interesting on the sides is that it has a ramp design, which does not cut clean. The body is made of plastic, although the central part where the keys are has a brushed aluminum design. Altogether it is a very robust and very well built keyboard.

The keycaps on this keyboard are quite large and comfortable, something that is always important. The elevation above the keyboard surface is sufficient for the travel of the mechanical switch. You can see in this image the body of the switch, which is translucent.

Cougar Attack X3 RGB numeric mechanical keyboard

We miss the typical multimedia and sound keys on this keyboard. There is a large amount of space on the numeric keypad for them. Even on the top bar in black plastic they could have been installed. Instead they have been integrated into the function keys and are activated by a combination of keys, something that makes it a bit uncomfortable.

Features Cougar Attack X3 RGB

Cougar Attack X3 RGB mechanical keyboard cherry mx red mechanical switches

Cougar has chosen to install on this keyboard, Cherry MX Red mechanical switches with RGB. These types of switches are among the best rated on the market and are specifically designed for gaming. Specifically, these are the version that integrate RGB lighting, something that Cherry offers to adapt to the market. If you want more information on these mechanical switches, you have a complete guide here.

Cougar Attack X3 RGB usb mechanical keyboard

Something very curious about this keyboard is that the braided cable ends in two USB connectors. The first of the USB cables, the one with the printed keyboard, enables RGB lighting and keyboard operation. The second is designed for the effects of this same keyboard. It does not have USB ports or anything like that, it requires two connectors for the correct operation of RGB, something really rare. Cougar Indica recommends connecting the two for RGB effects, but the keyboard drawing is sufficient.

Cougar Attack X3 RGB rear mechanical keyboard

The lower part has two large pads in the lower area of the keyboard. At the top we find two plastic feet with a rubber finish to prevent slipping. It offers a very good grip, although it will move, that is inevitable unless we screw it to the table.

Conclusion

This Cougar Attack X3 RGB keyboard features Cherry MX Red mechanical switches, perfect for gaming. These switches also offer software customizable RGB lighting. Everything in this keyboard is designed for gaming and the truth is that in this field it is quite comfortable. Also noteworthy is the brushed aluminum sheet on the top, which gives it a very elegant finish.

There are two aspects that are not quite clear. The first is because you need two USB connectors for RGB lighting, something we've never seen before. We have only connected one and it has worked without major problems. The other aspect that does not convince us is the elimination of the multimedia and sound keys. The keyboard has more than enough space to integrate them, but they have been added to the function keys, making them more uncomfortable to use.
