Unboxing Genesis Thor 300 RGB

The truth is that the box is quite typical, with a large image on the front. When we pick it up, what is striking is how extremely heavy the box is. It is not for less, since only the keyboard weighs more than 1.2Kg, so we are talking about a strong keyboard.

Let's go now with the back of this box. Here we already find enough more information regarding this keyboard. Some of the features of this keyboard are highlighted, in addition to highlighting the mechanical switches that this keyboard uses.

It is interesting that the outer box is simply a cover for an inner sober box. Inside the 'decorative' box we find a second box, much more sober. This box only has the product name and the company logo.

In addition to the Genesis Thor 300 RGB keyboard, inside we find several elements. The first is a small user and installation manual. It comes with a small sticker and a key to remove the keycaps from the keyboard and thus clean the keyboard more easily.

Genesis Thor 300 RGB design

As we can see, this keyboard has a complete design and a layout in Spanish. The truth is that it is a very elegant keyboard, with the mechanical switches that protrude from the structure. The fact that the mechanical switches protrude from the structure allows maintenance tasks to be carried out in a very simple way.

This keyboard integrates the lighting keys on the same keyboard. Although the Genesis Thor 300 RGB allows its management through software, we can do it directly from the keyboard itself. It has a full numeric keyboard.

One aspect that we have not liked too much and that has become quite popular lately is the multimedia keys, integrating them within the function keys (F). A curious aspect of this keyboard, which we will see later, are some lighting keys that allow lighting certain keys.

Features Genesis Thor 300 RGB

It has been chosen to install the Outemu Red mechanical switches, considered an economical alternative to the Cherry MX Red. The Outemu Red are linear switches with an actuation force of 60G and a travel of 2mm

Something that we liked a lot is that the keyboard has a meshed cable. Not only does this offer a more aesthetically pleasing finish than the typical plastic cover, it also helps protect the plastic cover that collects the cables. The cable ends in a gold-plated USB port to reduce corrosion.

Genesys-Thor-300-RGB-keys

This Genesis Thor 300 RGB keyboard features individual RGB backlighting for each key. The truth is that you can spend a while looking at the different lighting modes and the different color ranges. We can manage it through software or simply, with the keys arranged on the keyboard itself.

Genesys-Thor-300-RGB-profile-cod

Something quite curious about this keyboard is that it has specific profiles for certain games. If we press the function key and the numbers 1 to 5 a certain number of keys light up. They are necessary for each of the indicated game modes. The 1 is intended for FPS games, 2 for CF titles, 3 for CoD, 4 for LoL and 5 for racing games.

Conclusion

I have to say that it is one of the most interesting keyboards that I have had the pleasure of testing. The Genesis Thor 300 RGB is characterized by being quite heavy, which translates into great structural durability. It has an aluminum foil on the plastic frame which I must say is quite thick and cold. In addition, this aluminum sheet is where the mechanical switches rest.

Regarding the Outemu Red, to say that they are quite good for gaming, they offer a great response. This keyboard has a big drawback and it is that it is tremendously loud. When you're playing the tapping of the keys generates a lot of loudness. I should also point out that it is a bit uncomfortable to write due to the height of the set. The keyboard itself has a notable elevation and since the mechanical switches are in a superficial installation, a greater height is generated.

Having the mechanical switches superficially isn't bad either, as it makes cleaning easier. To play it is a somewhat noisy keyboard, but very good, but it is not recommended at all if you want to combine it with work or write long texts on time.

  • Outemu Red mechanical switches
  • A really brutal amount of RGB effects
  • Specific lighting keys according to the type of game
  • Very good quality structure with aluminum cover
  • Quite heavy, which makes it quite fixed on the table
  • Lighting can be controlled from keyboard or via software
  • Allows to generate macros
  • Conveniently cleanable thanks to shallow installation of mechanical switches
  • Excessive height for writing
  • It's remarkably loud
