How to put the at symbol (@)
One of the most important and widely used symbols in modern computing is the at sign. The at symbol (@) It was introduced for email addresses, but today its use goes even further. To mention users on both Twitter and Instagram, you must put the at sign and the user's name. However, there may be problems when using this symbol and we will explain the ways to solve the problem.
Language settings
This symbol is universal and is used for many functions, which is why it is present on all keyboards in the world. It also doesn't matter operating system, since Windows, Linux and MacOS, since all of these recognize this symbol. The only thing that can change in some cases is how the symbol is entered. For example, in MacOS instead of pressing the 'Ctrl' key we must press the 'Command' key.
If we have problems when entering the at sign, the first thing we have to do is verify the language of the operating system. This is important, since, for example, in the English language the @ is not entered the same as in the Spanish language.
The first thing we can do is see the assigned language in the task bar, if we have more than one installed. If we click on the indicator, the languages that we may have installed appear. If not, in 'Language Preferences' we can install more language packs.
How to write at symbol @
When we have the correct language, we have to write the symbol. Its operation is very simple. We must pay attention to the serigraphy of the numeric keys located above the alphabetic keys. That's where the special characters are and among them, the at sign.
If one of these characters is above a number, to enter it we must press the 'Alt' key and the number in question. If the symbol is on the right, we must press Ctrl + Alto + Key or by means of Alt Gr + Key. For both cases we will achieve the objective.
Note: Alt Gr is located to the right of the space bar
But there are several possible keyboard combinations for the at symbol
- Spanish: It is added by pressing 'Alt Gr + 2' or with 'Ctrl + Alt + 2'
- Numeric: The combination 'Alt + 64' adds it. To do this, we must press 'Alt' and without releasing 6 and 4. When we release the at symbol will appear on the screen.
- Latino (Argentina, Mexico ...): For Argentine, Mexican and similar language packages it can be added with 'Alt GR + Q' or 'Ctrl + Alt + Q)
- American English: Combination of 'Shift + 2'
- English United Kingdom: Combination of 'Shift +' '
- French: Combination of 'Alt Gr + à'
The number combination will work regardless of the keyboard language. If you have a language not mentioned, try the specified combinations or change the language. Highlight that languages such as Latin Spanish and Italian share shortcuts.
In case it does not work for you, we recommend looking for the combination according to your language. If the at symbol doesn't appear on the keyboard physically, you may have a weird layout. For this case it could be located elsewhere.
