Difference between Word and Word Online
There are very few differences between the version of Word for Windows and other operating systems from Word Online. Both share practically all the characteristics, although the online version is missing some things, such as the covers.
But the great advantage of Word Online over the desktop version lies in the cloud. Documents are automatically saved to OneDrive, so they're always available. We can connect from another computer to our Hotmail account and access the document.
Requirements for its use
Basically to use Word Online we need two things: a Microsoft account and an internet connection. If we use Windows, we will surely have one, if not we can also use a Hotmail account, for example. Nothing else is really needed.
How to use Word Online
If anyone knows how to do simple things, it is Microsoft, which is why they have created a dedicated website for the text editor. To access, we just have to click on this link.
Once on the web we simply have to enter our Microsoft account (or Hotmail) and password. If you don't have one, we can easily create an account. Once inside we will have access to a menu of company tools, including Word Online.
Clicking on the Word icon takes us to choose between a new project, different templates or recent documents. We even see a tab with documents that have been shared with us.
If we opt for a new document, we access a completely blank document.
The menu is somewhat simpler than in the desktop version, but it is still very powerful and there are many options. Everything you need to create a great document is present.
Word Online stores all documents in OneDrive, generating an autosave every so often. In addition to having the document available throughout the world, the loss of information is avoided. You could even say that this version of Word is better than the desktop one.
How to save a Word Online document to USB
It could be the case that you do not have internet where you go and want to store it on a USB memory. The truth is that the process couldn't be easier:
- Connect a USB stick to your computer
- From the same Microsoft account we go to One Drive
- Folders and stored documents will be shown to us
- We right click on the one we want to download and it will be saved on the computer
- We go to the 'My downloads' or 'Downloads' folder on our computer and the first one that appears (Windows 10) is the document that we just downloaded
- Now we just have to send it to USB
