Guide to setting up your cryptocurrency mining rig
[NOTE: This guide on how to set up a cryptocurrency mining rig was originally made in 2018. It is very possible that the way to start it has changed. For example, this configuration no longer works for Ethereum cryptocurrency mining, which already works through a blockchain of Proof of Stake, so now it is necessary to make several purchases of Ethereum tokens to put them in a smart and collateral contract. It is no longer possible to get Ethereum with a mining rig like the one we teach you how to configure below]
For a long time, everyone who visits the Youtube channel of this website has asked Raider how to set up our cryptocurrency mining rigs. During a direct From his personal channel, he explained some of the things that must be done. But she said it so quickly that we have left it detailed here so that you can easily set up your mining rig yourself from scratch.
Some of these things I already said in the previous guide on how to fix the 12 code device administrator, however they are necessary tasks for the configuration of our equipment so I will leave them here again.
Table of Contents
Step 1: Set Bios
You must restart the computer and press F2 to enter the Bios and inside you must make some changes, this specific section may vary depending on the motherboard you have so go slowly, read everything and try to find the most similar names.
(in this case the plate is a Asrock H81 pro BTC R2.0)
Step 2: TOOL\Internet Flash – DHCP
With this we will update the Bios, this you have to do with the Ethernet cable connected so that the board connects to the internet and looks for its updates
Step 3: ADVANCED\Chipset configuration
Inside we will have to change several things
- Primary graphics adapter \ PCI express
- PCIE2 Link Speed \ Gen2
- Onboard HD audio \ Disabled
- restore on AC / power loss \ Power on
(The latter is very important since if the electrical current is cut abruptly, this option will make the rig turn on automatically as soon as the power returns).
Step 4: ADVANCED\Super IO configuration
- Serial port 1 \ disabled
- Serial port 2 \ disabled
- Parallel port \ disabled
Step 5Windows
Control Panel \ Power Options
In this section we will select High performance
Here we have to make sure that the system does not go into hibernation or turn off when it does not detect use of the equipment and for this we will go to Change the plan configuration.
Control Panel \Power Options\ Change plan settings
- Screen off / never
- Put the computer to sleep / never
System \ system information \ advanced system settings \

A window will open and in the tab Advanced Options, en performance click on the option setting, this will open a new window and in the tab Visual effects we select the option Adjust for best performance.
We continue in configuration and choose the tab Advanced Options and in virtual memory we choose change… again it will open another window and the option automatically manage paging file size for all drives must be deselected, below we select custom size: and we will assign the value 17000 both initial size as in maximum size, we accept in each window to save the changes and exit from there.
Automatic miner start
For this, the first thing we will do is create a shortcut of the BAT file that we use to mine and place it on the desktop. The next thing we will do is in any folder write in the address bar % Appdata% and we press enter, this redirects us to another folder and we will follow the following path
Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Here what we will do is cut the shortcut that we had previously placed on the desktop and paste it in this new folder. In my case, if I want to increase the power of the graphics a bit to get a few extra Sun / s, the gigabyte software has to be active so the bat procedure can be repeated with the software you use.
In this way we have already configured our rig so that if it loses electrical current, when the electricity is restored, turn on only and once you enter Windows, start only the bat and start mining, very useful for not being 24/7 stuck to the rig in case something happens, to be able to start it again.
Tips when setting up a cryptocurrency mining rig
Additional advice that I can give, if you mine Zcash personally I like flypool because you do not need to register and from its website you can monitor in almost real time that the graphs are mining, which is useful to watch it from the mobile, it also has the option in its configuration to send you an alert via email when the rig goes more than 45 minutes without mining.
Finally, and although this is something that I think everyone uses: Teamviewer, create a free account and download its app on your mobile. This way you can also monitor the PC from your mobile and control the temperature of the graphics or open and close programs as needed. as you would from the rig itself.
