Market share of Intel and AMD PROCESSORS in SPAIN in OCTOBER 2019

This month it has cost us more to collect data on the sale of processors in Spain. Of course, everyone is working on Black Friday and that has caused the delay. You already know that monthly and exclusively we offer you data on the market share of processors in Spain. A more complicated month for processor sales, as many wait for the Cybermonday and Black Friday sales.

We see how in other markets AMD sweeps in terms of sales. Intel falls in sales due to production problems and high prices. The company currently has more demand than production capacity. Among others, this is answered by the Core-F, processors with disabled iGPU because it has a defect.

September precedents

On July 7, AMD launched the Ryzen 3000 processors, which already anticipated the one that was coming to Intel. We saw in August how AMD surpasses Intel. Data were consolidated on last september, with an improvement of approximately 1% in favor of AMD. The evolution is clear and we will see later if it takes hold this October and becomes a trend.

On the best-selling processors in September by Intel, the Core i7-9700K stands out with an 18% share and the Core i9-9900K, with a 16% share. The other two featured processors were the Core i5-9400F with a 13% share and the Core i5-9600K with a 12% share. The rest of Intel processors are below the 10% share.

Data from AMD reflected the Ryzen 5 3600 as the best-selling processor with a 28% market share. Curiously, the second best-selling processor, with a 20% benchmark, was the Ryzen 5 2600. This processor has lowered its price when it was replaced by the Ryzen 5 3600. Note that the Ryzen 5 2600 is based on the Zen + @ 12nm architecture.

It should be noted that between the second and third best-selling processor by AMD there is little difference. We see how the Ryzen 7 3700X has a 14% market share and the Ryzen 9 3900X has almost 13.5% market share. Between these two processors is the Ryzen 7 3800X, which barely accounts for 1% of sales. It is logical, since this processor is in a no-man's-land between both processors. For price the Ryzen 7 3700X is a better option, really.

Intel Processor Sale in October 2019

Radical change in sales of Intel processors. The company has started to lower prices and what we could call the mid-range has become very interesting. The Core i5-9400F has moved from third place to first with more than 25% share in Intel processors. This 6-core, 6-thread processor without integrated graphics seems to appeal to users looking for a processor with good value for money.

Another one that rises is the Core i5-9600K, going from fourth position to second with more than 17% market share. This processor also has 6 cores and 6 threads, it has an iGPU and overclocking capabilities, something important for the future. The Core i9-9900K slipped from second to third with less than 17% market share.

The Core i9-9900KF stands out in fourth place, rising strongly to fourth place with a share of more than 10%. This processor does not have an iGPU, being the only technical difference with respect to the Core i9-9900K. Finally, it is worth highlighting the collapse of the Core i7 9700K, which from being the best-selling one goes to the fifth position with less than 10% share.

AMD Processor Sale in October 2019

There are also interesting surprises in terms of market share here. The arrival of the Ryzen 3000 has caused the Ryzen 2000 to drop in price and are at bargain prices. This has caused the Ryzen 5 2600 to become the best-selling processor by AMD. This processor exceeds the 21.5% share and slightly exceeds the Ryzen 5 3600. The one that was in September loses the first place for the processor that it would replace.

The Ryzen 9 3900X with 12 cores and 24 threads improves one position, achieving almost 16.5% market share. This processor rises to the detriment of the Ryzen 7 3700X, which drops to fourth place with a share of more than 11%. Quite a change of trend.

It is striking that the Ryzen 7 3700X has more than 6.5% market share and the Ryzen 7 2700 with more than 6% market share. It is not a bad fact, caused by the price reduction of these processors.

We highlight the Ryzen 7 3800X. This processor only has 0.24% market share, which indicates the irrelevance of this processor. Only a few MHz differentiate it from the Ryzen 7 3700X, but the price is higher. They are almost € 80 more for just 100MHz more in Boost mode, something that makes it a bad investment. For that money we can have the RAM or the SSD or any other component for our chassis.

Intel-AMD Market Share in October 2019

Here perhaps comes the most interesting fact of all. AMD touches 60% of the market share, managing to rise almost five percentage points. This shows that despite the price reduction by Intel, its processors are not of interest. Users see the potential of Ryzen processors and that they have better solutions than Intel. The Spanish market follows in the wake of other markets, although from afar, everything is said.

Conclusion

Important fluctuations in terms of the best-selling processors of one and another company, with interesting data. Intel's downgrade has favored the sale of mid-range processors. AMD has downgraded the Ryzen 2000s, which sell very well for their great performance. The Ryzen 3000 bring improvements to IPC and PCIe 4.0, but the Ryzen 2000 are still excellent processors for gaming and multitasking.

The 5% increase in market share for AMD indicates that Intel has two problems: prices and production. The first is corrected by lowering the profit margin, something that they do not seem interested in doing in the company. The production should be solved with 10nm, the day they are released. A given problem because it has its plants at full production and the demand is much higher than the production capacity. Something that clearly benefits AMD.
