A look at the semiconductor shortage
The Intel Showroom first emphasized the semiconductor shortage. For this they have learned from the possible mistakes in the assembly lines, they have delocalized them and they are going to expand them thanks to Intel Foundry Services. They will not be limited to making products for themselves, but will also be a foundry that will provide services to third parties such as car manufacturers.
Intel Evo Success
The Intel Evo platform, which is the brand in which official laptops must meet a series of quality requirements in terms of battery, power, and efficiency, has been a success and has been fully adopted by users as an indicator of quality. . Intel and other manufacturers have made 4 million notebooks under the brand, and they expect to sell 3 million units by the end of this year. To give us an idea of success, 300.000 units of Intel Evo Notebook were sold in July.
Intel sales in different categories
The bulk of this showroom has been the change in the sales profile after several user surveys carried out in July this year. They have noticed a certain change in buying and selling patterns due to the pandemic, of online classes and remote work, when many laptops have been bought and for personal use when the home computer was not enough for families.
Intel has noticed that the age of the entry sector, that of devices under 400 euros has been rejuvenated and they are more women than men. The reason for the purchase is for work only, their purchase is more thoughtful, but they continue to buy within a week or two. But they notice that many are dissatisfied and then look for something else to go to the volume range.
The volume sector, the devices that cost between 400 and 799 euros saw that their sales have been focused on changing a product that does not work, they take a long time to buy. The sector of benefits, of products between 800 and 999 euros, for this segment its audience is increasingly younger, it is usually their first own device or improve the one they already have. The series of premium benefits, of more than 1000 euros, has increased the number of young people who buy it, especially among students.
From all that sales study, it is that the majority of buyers are between 16 and 245 years old, sales to students double, they have a full-time job, online searches are increased and impulse purchases decrease. People see that every time people value comparing benefits and think if the new PC and the benefits compensate them. It has also increased that the consumer has a more defined use, and not a general one.
89% of households have at least one PC; 55,5% experience some small or serious problem with their terminal, because those who use it the most see more limitations. At least 42% of households think that they should change it at some point because it does not meet their expectations.
The gamer's profile is still very present, but they see that it is not only about playing. Gamers see the PC as a platform for content creation or professional and office applications, with which their gaming computers are also used for work or remote classes. They have noticed that the PC is renewed because they want to improve its characteristics over that it does not work well, the CPU being the component that they value the best, while the RAM matters slightly less. In the field of future purchases, they see that there is more interest in buying a desktop and that of buying a laptop has dropped. The average price they expect to spend on the new PC is 1.145 euros, an increase of 100 euros over last year, but they note that the real price is usually much higher than the average.
Intel GPUs
By early next year, Intel will enter the GPU market, which they cannot say much about for now but hope to comment in the coming months. They believe that what will interest most is neural artificial intelligence, a fundamental pillar of their GPUs. Its platformization capacity is another of the main characteristics that they believe may be of interest to users.
Future Alder Lake
The Alder Lake CPU series is the most scalable CPU series Intel has released to date, allowing them to adapt to all types of markets, needs and budgets. They hope it will be a success and be one of their most widespread series.
