The worst games and apps of the Pokémon franchise

Pokémon has many, many games, and by sheer statistics, many are going to be the worst we've seen, some are even the worst games ever. Here we are going to list several of the worst games in the franchise.

One positive thing about Pokémon is that it is very moldable and versatile. It has given us the main series of RPGs for children, even puzzles, action games that expand the world ... But many games were also pure rubbish. Some of them being of the worst nintendo games or history. In this article we are going to show the moments in which Pokémon has been at its worst, because not all have been successes in the best-known multimedia franchise in the world.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield

With eight generations of Pokémon, by sheer statistics, some had to be notably bad. Although the generation of Sword and Shield on Nintendo Switch is not a really bad generation in itself, what weighs the most was the huge disappointment that the big leap to desktop consoles was (although Nintendo Switch is also portable).

Pokémon already showed us with both installments of Colosseum the Game Cube that they could make relatively ambitious RPGs despite their limitations. Now without them, the world stage is very small, it has little additional content, it lacks half a National Pokédex ... A host of problems that make a game more bitter that is not already good enough.

Everything seems to indicate that it was launched in a hurry to arrive at Christmas 2019 and that the Nintendo Switch has a game by then. It could well be delayed a year seeing how they are releasing DLCs now.

pokemon battle revolution

Pokémon Stadium dazzled by putting the Pokémon in 3D, and the minigames were fun ... But the limited battles were repetitive until exhaustion. Then came the Pokémon Colosseum on GameCube that showed how a desktop RPG could be made. And all that was discarded in the next installment for Wii.

And is that Pokémon Battle Revolution on the Wii is bland. Everything is based on fighting, but the philosophy of Game Freak and Nintendo is that the fighting cannot be very complicated because the series is a children's franchise. This means that we are going to encounter numerous forgettable and unremarkable battles. Of course, after dinner. It's the fact that it's a nondescript bunch of fighting that makes Pokémon Battle Revolution one of the worst Pokémon games.

Pokémon Go ... in its primary version

Today, Pokémon Go is the app that accompanies all mobile phones on a daily basis. On weekends and holidays it is not uncommon to see groups in cities like Madrid o Barcelona making raid routes. But when it originally came out, it was a hit, although it was limited.

Being able to put your PokéStops? Raids? Shadow Pokémon? Team Rocket? Nothing of that. It was a game that boiled down to catching Pokémon, leveling them up, and leaving them in gyms and nothing else. It is true that it is still done in the current version but the game has improved so much that the vanilla version would become unplayable. Oh, and we did not forget the constant connection problems because millions of people were not expected to play a mobile game based on the most famous franchise in the world at the same time.

Pokémon Coffee Mix

Another fairly modern installment, but this one is already ... Bad in itself. Pokémon lends itself very well to puzzle games, and for example we have the Pokémon Puzzle League there (even if they are a Pon Panel skin, Nintendo's series of puzzles). But Pokémon Café Mix is not bad for being a puzzle game, it is that it is not very good and uses very abusive mobile game tactics.

We understand that they want us not to play the straight game, and that they put difficulties for us ... But the restrictive nature of the game and with hardly any strategy makes us think that it is pure RNG or pure luck. You can manipulate it and try to ensure victory with microtransactions and helps. But its use is almost mandatory due to its almost random nature and without strategy.

And it's a shame that this is one of the worst Pokémon games because its design is totally adorable. It always remains that the dishes of the game are converted into an official recipe book.

pokemon channel

Let's think how desperate they were in Nintendo to sell this game as the official way to get Jirachi. Make no mistake, Pokémon Channel was only worth getting a legendary Pokémon, you and all your friends if you also had the cable to connect the Game Cube to the Game Boy Advance.

How bad is the game? The title consisted of watching TV with Pikachu, and that TV was starring entirely Pokémon. Every day, in the purest style Animal Crossing, they give us some new channels, décor, and more. And there was little content: news, telemarketing, physical exercises, a contest, and six versions of the same exclusive short film by the Pichu brothers in different languages.

A game that has nothing to offer, it is slow and with little content even for very young children. We know that Pokémon is a children's series, but not even the most infants would enjoy this game much, which is among the worst games in the series.

My pokémon ranch

This Pokémon game is actually a box to store your Pokémon from the Nintendo DS deliveries… But it was sold on the Nintendo Wii Store Channel and had interactive elements, with which it comes in. Can it be unfair, especially since it can no longer be obtained legally? A bit, but if it was sold as a game and it was not good, it makes this list of the worst Pokémon games.

Suppose we only have one Wii and we buy this game. We found ourselves before one of those parenting simulators to play five minutes every few days that filled the WiiWare catalog. A genre of games that was ideal because of the little space they took up. What can you do? Go in, watch your creatures go, and turn off. And so every day, to have your little daily routine raising Pokémon.

My Pokémon Ranch does not escape from this, and from being a delivery that only as a box. As with the Pokémon Channel, in the end people bought it because it was the legal way to get Mew and Phione. At least the outlay was only 10 euros compared to the 40 or 50 that Pokémon Channel could cost just to get Jirachi.
