Intel Shows Alder Lake Capabilities On Its Intel Blueprint

Intel is working hard on the new Inteal Alder Lake CPU series. It will be the twelfth generation of Intel Core whose star of the range is the i9-12900K CPU, which is the one that has been demonstrated the most in the virtual Intel Blueprint event.

Reinventing architecture with Alder Lake

The launch of Alder Lake represents a change in the architecture of the Intel Core. Thanks to this change in architecture that will combine performance cores and efficiency cores, Intel Thread Director will be established, with which the operating system will direct the less expensive tasks to efficiency cores while leaving the larger tasks to the performance cores. It will be a unique SoC architecture and it will be scalable in the Intel 7 process, the unified process of creating CPus that they will carry in their foundries.

They are already working with more than 140 customers, which will deliver more than sixty motherboards compatible with the Alder Lake architecture. Many other software developers are collaborating with Intel to adapt their programs and games to the architecture and thus make the most of it.

Intel Alder Lake is postulated as the CPU for gamers

At this event they have put a lot of emphasis on the fact that Intel's i9-12900k will be the most suitable CPU for gamers, as well as content creators. Thanks to the marriage between performance and efficiency cores, the most expensive processes will reproduce without problems while the light ones will be done in the background. With this they achieve that the performance compared to the previous generation, has improved by 19%.

According to Intel's own studies, the i9-12900K greatly improves performance on several of the biggest titles on the market over its predecessor, with a few exceptions waiting to be corrected with updates and drivers. Compared to the Ryzen 5950X, performance in highly CPU-dependent games is on par or outperform AMD's CPU by a considerable margin.

Using different types of cores allows for better multitasking. Only moving Mouny% Blade II; Bannerlord improved 19% over the previous generation, and when combined with OBS it achieves an 84% higher frame count.

Using content creation tools in the Adobe suite, they improved by a minimum of 30% over the previous generation. In the case of Adobe After Effects, the improvement is practically doubling the performance. Autodesk, Revit, Luminar, and Vegas will also benefit from the enhancements offered by this new generation.

They are aware of the news that has come out about incompatibilities with Denuvo DRM. That is why they have been working with Denuvo so that all the games that use it work perfectly thanks to a collaboration between Denuvo and Intel.

What's New for the 12th Gen Intel

This new generation of Intel CPUs will bring many new features thanks to the new architecture. Here we list several of those news that Intel has confirmed:

Platform improvements:

  • Support for DDR5 up to 4800MT / s
  • PCIe 5 processor up to 16 channels
  • Up to 4.0-channel PCIe 2 chipset
  • Integrated Wi-Fi 6 support
  • Up to 8 channels DMI 4.0
  • Improved memory and core overclocking
  • Better Intel UHD graphics than Intel Xe architecture

Architecture improvements:

  • Intel Process Technology 7
  • Hybrid architecture combining efficiency and performance cores
  • Intel Thread Director
  • L2 Cache and Shared L3 Cache Enhancements Using Intel Smart Cache

Intel 600 Chipset

With the arrival of Intel Alder Lake, the z60 motherboard chipset platform also debuts. This series of motherboards will be created to adopt all the novelties of this new generation of Intel CPus. These new Z690 chipsets will include the following new features:

  • PCIe 4.0 lanes
  • Integrated Intel Wi-Fi 6E (Gig +)
  • Volume management appliance for easy-to-use PCIe device management
  • 8 times the DMI Gen 4.0 to double the bandwidth and make it faster between the chipset and the processor.
  • USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 20Gbps

Overclocking at Alder Lake

One of the most important parts of this presentation has been to show the overclocking capabilities of this generation of Intel. Absolutely all components will be able to be overclocked independently thanks to new tools that Intel has developed to give users greater control over CPU and memory overclocking.

With this new generation, the option of being able to overclock DDR4 is maintained for those who want to wait for the technology to be developed after its launch, and that of DDR5 is added for adventurers who will enter it. Intel XMP has been updated to be able to overclock everything, to improve the efficiency of the efficiency cores, to put compatibility with ddr5. And to add, they revitalized Rev 2.0

The idea is that overclocking is easy and accessible with Alder Lake. In the future there will be a BIOS update so that the system will detect when it is convenient to use overclocking so as not to lose efficiency. With the software that Intel will offer, it will be possible to overclock with a single click, and it will do so based on profiles uploaded by the community that obtain the best performance depending on the hardware we have. The tools that Intel will give us will let us control each core individually, regardless of whether it is one of efficiency or performance.

Other details of Alder Lake

After the presentation, we had a question and answer round with Intel in which the following details were provided:

  • Gen 12 is the architecture they're going to focus on going forward. There will be updates on 11 but they will focus on 12.
  • Intel Thread Director and Alder's hybrid combination will give Windows 11 the edge in performance. It will depend on Microosft if they update Windows 10 will be able to take advantage of them, but it is likely that they will not get the full benefit of them.
  • The efficiency and performance cores are developed in different parts of the world. But both teams are in sync.
  • For now they do not know if the new Alder Lake socket will be used in future generations.
  • The different types of cores share limits of PL1 and PL2, but have power budgets depending on the application.
  • There is more and more PCIe Gen 4 but despite not being widely accepted, they put PCIe Gen 5 to be able to anticipate technological needs.
  • It is possible that some program or game is worse in Alder Lake than in the previous generation, but it will be an exceptional case.
  • The maximum frequency data of the efficiency cores will depend on the users.
  • It is possible that in the future the consumption of the performance cores may be disabled if they are not used.
  • Intel Arc graphics will be optimized with the correct applications and Intel Thread Director.
