What is the file limit in Yahoo Mail

Although most users use Gmail as email, there is a large percentage of users who use Yahoo! Mail. All email services usually set limits on the size of files. Yahoo mail has a maximum file size. The reason is to avoid saturating the Data Centers, both in space and in bandwidth necessary for sending mail. Another factor is security, although nothing prevents sending malware that is within the limit.

What is the file limit in Yahoo Mail

Yahoo's limit for an email attachment is 25MB. Most of the files that are sent today have a weight less than this size. If we want to send a video, it is quite likely that we cannot do it. Photos are usually lighter, but videos immediately weigh a lot and would be within the limit.

Yahoo's 25MB limitation not only includes the attached file (s), but also the email itself. We must bear in mind that the signature and the text also have a certain weight within the mail.

Although the attached file can be 25MB at most, we can send Yahoo emails with a higher weight.

How to attach a 25MB file in Yahoo Mail

Can I attach files larger than 25MB? The truth is yes. We can send files up to 100MB by means of the mail of Yahoo, being able to send files of great volume. To do so we must follow these steps:

  1. We must log in and go to the applications section. You will find it under folders
  2. Now we activate the option to attach large files
  3. We have to accept the option to share our information with Yahoo
  4. We go to the application to attach the document and we give 'start now'
  5. We click on upload and compose the email
  6. Once the email is written, we add the recipient
  7. And we send it

Even bigger files with YouSendIt

We can go one step further and start the YouSendIt function that will allow you to send files up to 1GB. This is a third-party tool that allows you to send larger files privately, safely and easily. The steps are the following:

  1. We log in in Yahoo mail and we go to the option 'attach large files'
  2. We give permission for YouSendIt to access our mail
  3. We add the recipient
  4. We write the mail
  5. We select the documents what do we want to send
  6. Click in the upper left area the share button
  7. We click on send

Less direct alternatives for sending large files

These are the simplest possibilities, but you have other options a little more cumbersome. You can upload the file or files to a cloud service such as Dropbox. In this case, you should only add the link so that the recipient of the email can download the file. You can also use One Drive by Microsoft, Drive by Google and many other cloud storage services.

How to reduce the weight of the message

We also want to leave you some rabbits to get reduce the weight of the message. If it happens that we go through very little, we can always adjust it a little with a few tricks. There are these options:

  • File compression: The simplest option is to compress the files we want to send. This not only reduces the size of the files, it unifies them into a single file.
  • Use the cloud: As we have mentioned, this is a good option if we are going to send a large number of files. Here we upload the files to the cloud and simply send a link. The weight of the Yahoo mail will become really minimal.
  • Send several emails: It is the least practical solution, no doubt, but it is a solution. We can send several emails, since sending emails with attachments does not have the lowest cost. Although for us it can be a nuisance and for the recipient a nuisance, since they will have several emails with files.
  • Reduce the weight of images: We can compress the images and even change the format. It is not necessary to know Photoshop, far from it, you just have to download XnView and ready. This software compresses the images and offers us privacy, since uploading them to the network can be a privacy problem.
