The best processors for gaming are all, although depending on what we need, we will be interested in one thing more than another. The frequencies or the number of cores make the difference, in terms of overall performance. Its purpose is to offer an agile system that allows us fluid gaming and the best performance in intensive tasks such as video editing or transcoding.

Currently the only two manufacturers of desktop processors are Intel and AMD. Depending on whether we choose a processor from one manufacturer or another, we must choose a suitable motherboard.   • You can't lose with AMD or Intel: Any of the current solutions from either manufacturer are excellent. Processor overclocking

The overclocking technique consists of increasing the working frequency of the processor or other components by removing limiters through the BIOS or by using more powerful cooling. Cooling for overclocking

  • The heatsink we choose will be a limiting factor in terms of overclocking capacity
  • The heatsinks support a certain thermal TDP, if it is exceeded, the heatsink will not be able to cool the processor. In case you are afraid that it will overheat, the CPUs have protection measures and before reaching a critical temperature it will turn off.
  • The chassis or box is an important factor, since the more air flow it allows, the lower the temperature of our hardware.

  • Note that overclocking shortens processor life, because it suffers greater wear when forced beyond the use for which it has been designed.

What is the best processor for overclocking?

Intel processors

  • They have good overclocking ability.
  • It's easy to overclock them.
  • With a good air cooler we can improve its frequency Boost 200-300Hz.
  • The 10th Gen has temperature issues on the Core i9s due to the 14nm lithography. They can be tricky to overclock and require liquid cooling.
  • Only 'K' processors (explained above) support overclocking.
  • Intel may not cover your warranty if something happens, it's not common, but it can happen.

AMD processors

  • They have a relatively low TDP.
  • All processors support overclocking natively.
  • The ones with the 'X' have automatic overclocking, we don't have to do anything.
  • The Ryzen 3000 are based on 7nm, so their consumption and temperature are good.
  • They are very tight in frequency, so scratching a little more frequently is quite difficult.
  • Its Chiplet structure is not friendly to overclocking.
  • In extreme overclocking (liquid nitrogen) it is difficult to increase its frequency and it is usually lower than that supported by Intel processors.
  • Normally you also have to adjust the processor voltages a lot, making it difficult to work.
  • Air coolers are not enough, you need liquid cooling.

It is a better option than the Ryzen 3 3100, although it is more expensive, not only because of the frequencies, but also because it is based on a single DIE (silicon), something that reduces latencies and allows better performance.
