Merry X-Mas: DDR4 RAM

We select the most optimal DDR4 RAM memories according to the configuration and needs of the users.

Without a doubt, good DDR4 RAM memories are essential. As we have omitted DDR3 motherboards and processors in this series of articles, all selected kits are DDR4. We have tried to find solutions for all types of configurations and users, talking about what would be more or less interesting according to what configuration. There is some amount of DDR4 RAM, such as 64GB that are directly intended for Broadwell-E, but in 8GB and 16GB we can find solutions for all kinds of configurations and pockets.

Before we start, we want to clarify what XMP is, quickly and easily. This technology allows us to have several configurations or profiles stored in the memory SPD, selecting the one that suits according to use. It allows us to perform overclocking functions more easily through the profiles established by ourselves. It offers protection in the first initialization of the equipment, by means of the support of profiles regulated by JEDEC.

DDR4 8GB

Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB (2x4GB) 2133MHz (PC4-17000)

Most entry-level motherboards only support RAM frequencies of 2133MHz, which is the base frequency at which DDR4 moves, so we have chosen to progressively start this selection with an interesting alternative from Kingston. These memories are characterized by having a frequency of 2133MHz and are composed of two modules of 4GB each, adding a total capacity of 8GB, which is the currently recommended amount for gaming equipment. They are CL15 latency, which is good, although a CL14 would be better, this option for this price is nothing, but not bad.

Corsair Vengeance LPX Red 8Gb (2x4GB) 2400MHz (PC4-19200) CL15

If we are going to have a slightly more advanced equipment and our budget allows it, an interesting solution is these RAM memories. You may still think that Corsair is not a good option, but we must say that they offer high-quality, high-performance products. These memories also have XMP 2.0 technology, something that must be taken into account. Latency is very interesting, because in this case it is CL15. You have to take a good look at the motherboards, since it is 2400MHz and it could be that some do not recognize them.

Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2x4GB) 2400MHz (PC4-19200) CL15

We have highlighted that the Kingston option is always a good option and this is no less. They are quite similar to the first Kingston that we have mentioned, but these have a slightly higher frequency, being 2400MHz, therefore we will have to see if the motherboard supports it. It also has XMP technology, they are two modules of 4GB each and support XMP technology.

Patriot Viper4 8GB (2x4GB) 3000MHz (PC4-24000) CL16

We have been surprised by these memories, especially for the price. Here we are not talking so much about an entry-level equipment, but rather the mid-range. It will be difficult to find a motherboard that supports RAM memory with a frequency of 3000MHz, for the low end, but if we find it it is worth considering introducing these memories, because they are very good. These memories are a kit of two modules of 4GB each module and have compatibility with XMP technology.

Corsair Dominator Platinum 8GB (2x4GB) 3000MHz (PC4-24000) CL15

Top. These RAM memories play practically in another league. Corsair's Dominator Platinum Series is the best you can find on the market. These memories stand out not only for the 3000MHz, but for being CL15, something difficult to see in RAM memories with such a high frequency. These memories have a striking heatsink, but the best thing about this is that it is the most efficient on the market, so the memories will be well cooled.

DDR4 16GB

Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2x8GB) 2133Mhz PC4-17000 CL14

Not usually that much RAM is necessary for entry-level gaming equipment, but if someone wants to choose to add more than enough amount, this is an excellent option. They are more expensive than other kits that we will mention, but of course, they have CL14 latency, although on the contrary they have a frequency of 2133MHz. We would recommend it for entry-level or mid-range gaming equipment, but in very specific cases.

Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 16GB (4x4GB) 2400MHz CL14

It's not that we have a love for Corsair, it's that along with Kingston, they're the best in RAM. This kit is very interesting, because it is already designed for the mid-range, above all, with a very interesting price, we have high-quality RAM memories working at 2400MHz and a CL14 latency. The quality / price ratio of this kit, if we also take into account that they support XMP, is sublime.

G.Skill Ripjaws 4 16GB (4x4GB) 2800MHz (PC4-22400) CL16

Speaking of quality. G.Skill is one of those brands that always ends up surprising. The company always tries to manufacture good quality RAM memories but with a reduced heatsink, so that they are compatible with any type of cooler that we install in our equipment. Ripjaws are widely recognized and used among overclockers, for how well they work and move in overclocking tasks. There are four modules at 2800MHz each module and also with CL16. Logically they also support XMP.

Patriot Viper 4 Series 16GB (2x8GB) 3000MHz (PC4-22400) CL16

The Patriot brand may not sound like that much to you, but they are also the best on the market and in terms of quality / price they are very good and offer excellent performance. Specifically, we have chosen this kit that only has two modules, due to the duality it presents, since we can opt for a compact motherboard, but it also leaves it ready for a possible expansion in the future and go from 16GB to 32GB so very simple. They are CL16, but as we have said, it is difficult to find a lower latency at such high frequencies and also, these memories support XMP.

Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (4x4GB) 3000MHz (PC4-24000) CL15

We may seem heavy, but a good mid-range gaming computer with an Intel i5 K Series processor almost necessarily must have these RAM memories installed in your computer. The most important thing is latency, which is CL15, something difficult to see, but which is undoubtedly very interesting. As we have seen, the two solutions that precede this have higher latency and the same or similar frequency. Without a doubt, our star option is this.

DDR4 32GB

G.Skill Ripjaws 4 Black 32GB (4x8GB) 2400MHz (PC4-19200) CL15

Well, these memories are already more intended for Haswell-E processors, Intel's extreme range. It is not that it is a bad kit, since it has, among other things, support for XMP, but it is a rather entry solution, since these memories are 2400MHz input and of course, talking about these frequencies for extreme processors, just not home, but it is the cheapest kit within 32GB of memory. They are possibly ideal for the overclockable Haswell-E i5, but little else.

Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB (4x8GB) 2666MHz (PC4-21300) CL15

We wanted to make an ascent to the summit in this case simpler and more gradual. We have opted for these 2666MHz memories for two reasons, because they are from the CL15 and also because they are from the Platinum series, which will support overclocking without major problems. You can easily increase the frequency of these memories, logically by overclocking. As we have said, the dissipator of these memories is the best.

Patriot Viper 4 32GB (4x8GB) 3000MHz (PC4-24000) CL16

This kit has caught our attention, which does not get the first place for very little. Patriot for us is one more option to consider, since the quality of its components is high and the price is always in line with what it offers. Logically at this level these memories are compatible with XMP, otherwise they would not be directly recommended. The frequency is 3000MHz, but they are CL16 and of course, lowering the latency at these frequencies is complicated.

Kingston HyperX Savage 32GB (4x8GB) 3000MHz (PC4-24000) CL15

We have highlighted that it is difficult to find RAM with CL3000 latency at 15MHz, but not impossible. This is why we have looked for them for extreme configurations, such as configurations with Broadwell-E processors. Kingston's solution is very good and the Savage are high-power, high-performance memories that stand out for their already mentioned features and for their price, which is very good.

DDR4 64GB

G.Skill Ripjaws 4 64GB (8x8GB) 2800Mhz Pc-22400 CL15

If we want an extreme equipment that is left over, the 64GB option becomes almost a reality. We have chosen to put the Ripjaws, some memories that work excellently for computers already with a large amount of RAM. These are for Broadwell-E only, as all motherboards for these processors have eight RAM memory slots. It has a frequency of 2800MHz, which is great and they are CL15, which is something to keep in mind and that supports XMP, it is the ideal complement.

Corsair Dominator Platinum 64GB (8x8GB) 2400MHz (PC4-19200) CL14

We are aware that these memories have a very high price, but they are here for several reasons. The first thing is that they have a CL14 latency and work at 2400MHz, which you may think is somewhat low after what you see, but it is really very good, for such a large kit. What we like the most is that they have XMP technology, so we can upload them without major problems. It is not a kit for everyone, it is designed especially for extreme overclocking, where you work with high frequencies and the work is intense, which makes them ideal, since it has a high-quality heatsink, as we have commented previously .
