Opinion: Are the NVIDIA RTX really powerful or is the marketing really good
Table of Contents
One of the principles of illusionism is to make the spectator's eye see where you want it to look, so that it does not realize what you are really doing and for me the RayTracing of the NVIDIA RTX was that.
When I saw the broadcast of the conference on the next NVIDIA RTX cards through our YouTube channel one thing that our colleague Marco repeated live was "But is that in real time or is it a pre-rendered recording?".
After the presentation I had some doubts since all of the RTX was focused on RayTracing. Resolution, refresh rate, graphics processing, heat, power consumption and many others are so important things in a new generation of graphics cards that, to tell the truth, after the Nvidia conference which was focused on how spectacular RayTracing was. on the newer RTX I don't remember hearing any of this other.
Recently se leaked benchmarks Synthetics of the RTX 2080 which suggests that, if real, an RTX 2080 TI would aim for a possible 30% better than its predecessor the GTX 1080 TI, for a modest price of almost 1,300 Euros, then, is it worth paying that price?.
COLD DATA
If we are going to compare the numbers that we have in percentage terms, we have the following:
Source: Nvidia
COMPUTE POWER
it was only one 17.54% compared to the current generation but the jump from the 1080 TI to the 980 TI was a 102.5%.
BANDWIDTH
Bandwidth went up a 27% compared to the current generation, but the previous jump was 43.83%.
FREQUENCY
The frequency is the one that stands out the least, otherwise it is slightly reduced in a 2.33%, but the previous jump did see a large increase in 47.16%.
MEMORY FREQUENCY
Memory frequency has an increase of 27% and the previous jump was a 57%.
TONES OF THE NUMBERS
Although seeing these few numbers, they are not enough for me to want to run for one of these RTX 2080 TI, but we must clarify that the new technologies that they implement (such as GDDR6 memories) make them more efficient and manage to take advantage of the same amount of resources in a faster and more efficient way giving us that 30% of which I spoke before.
Returning to RayTracing, this technology is practically half of the new RTX graphics, it allows ray tracing to be done in real time and much better and faster than what is being done now.
NEGATIVE POINT
The price is definitely the worst point and there is no way to give help to the new graphics, everything has a reason and in short I have two reasons:
- Mining.
Yes, given that now there is an overproduction of stored graphics, Nvidia has the price so high for the customer to opt for a GTX1080 TI and thus eliminate the excess stock that the companies returned to them. - Price abuse.
Returning to mining, we all could see how the companies bled us with the "supply-demand" and raised prices not to lower them, which now a graph costs more than in its launch date (something absurd and ridiculous) and as now a GTX 1080 TI does not fall below 750-850 Euros in AMAZON, logically this new generation has to be even more expensive.
CONCLUSION
Wanting to compare the new RTX with the GTX is impossible because they are not the same nor can they do the same, come on, like comparing a car with a motorcycle. that's why we saw so much Raytracing at the conference because the core of these new graphics is that.
If the price is high, but let's be honest, this range of video cards is not designed for everyone, but for those who seek the best, "la crème de la crème", regardless of the price (and from the minute one they were already sold out), if you are going to think about buying one of these beasts think that you will get a two for one, you buy it for the graphic performance and power and you get the RayTracing (and built-in artificial intelligence) as a gift.
