Surely those of you who have come to this article is either because you have a WEBSITE with WordPress or because you are thinking of setting up or optimizing one.
For all of you I have good news, making a wordpress work well, index, and generate traffic is something easy if you know the necessary plugins, although today I am going to touch on the subject in a general way, in future opinion articles I will touch on specific topics, like cache, SEO, AMP, and other topics in a more focused and not so generalized way.
1 - WordPress SEO by YOAST
I think there is little to say about this plugin, it is already a classic and although there are others on the market, none are as complete, functional and updated as this one.
YOAST SEO allows us
- Improve the positioning of the site by generating friendly URLs,
- Remove the “category” category from URLs
- Generate SITEMAPS for the site
- KEYWORDS and METATAGS optimized
- Integrate social networks
And this is just a small example. So if you want a website or blog based on wordpress that is positioned correctly YOAST SEO is your plugin.
2 - W3 Total Cache
There are some questions that we should all ask ourselves at some point and the one I am most often asked is “does my blog need a cache plugin?” My answer is usually very clear:DO NOT«.
So why include a cache plugin in second place in this top WordPress plugin? Well, it is very simple, that is NOT very conditional, if your website is starting you do not need cache, but if you are going to have many visits per day, or at the same time it is essential.
In this context we have W3 Total Cache for WordPress, which is surely the best cache plugin for our WEBs, but which also has a very complex configuration not suitable for all users, nor for all HOSTINGs, although we will touch on this in another article talking only about cache and WordPress.
3 - Broken Link Checker
Over time all our websites end up having hundreds or thousands of entries, with thousands of images and this is a large and complex management problem. If we add to that that we update the same WordPress or some plugin, it is very likely (not to say SURE) that we have broken links, and this is a problem for the SEO of our WEB.
Broken Link Checker, is simply fantastic, a little heavy, simple and great plugin for, as its name suggests, finding broken links and being able to correct them in a very easy and direct way.
4 - Wordfence Security
The security of our sites is very important, and having the assurance that hackers will not have their easy job, is the job of this plugin. Ok, you also have to have a bit of consistency when installing WordPress, such as not adding the ADMIN user or not installing it in the DB with WP_ tables.
But for everything else Wordfence is a great plugin, which self-blocks IP, countries that we do not want or even warns us of access to the WEB or failed attempts, for this and everything else is for me one of the plugins that all WordPress should have installed.
5 - EWW Image Optimizer
Images, surely the biggest problem of loading our WEBs, and that is, who has time today to optimize with Photoshop or another image editor each and every one of the images that we upload to our WEBs ?. Well that is where this plugin comes in, capable of compressing the images already uploaded and thus save us some bandwidth on our hosting to accelerate the loading of our WEB.
It must be said that it is not the one that compresses the most, but to be free it is not bad at all.
6 - Regenerate Thumbnails
This plugin is combined with the previous one, and serves to regenerate the thumbnail views of our WEB site, it is ideal in case we change the theme and the sizes of the thumbnails, although we can also use it once every 6 months so that those thousands or millions of thumbnails are back up to date.

7 - Disqus
WordPress's default commenting system is… how to say, a real antiquity that doesn't benefit us at all, so it's best to install Disqus in WordPress and forget about comments.
With it, users will be able to leave comments using their social networks, or their Disqus users, in addition to improving the positioning and cloning the comments on your Disqus profile.
It has an external loading system that does not slow down WordPress and on top of it a better moderation, with the possibility of banning comments or users.
8 - Contact Form 7
There are plugins that are already a classic, and this is one of those, you can find it in 90% of the WEBs under WordPress and it is undoubtedly the most used option to create contact forms in a very easy and simple way.
So if you want to give your readers or other users a contact form, this plugin is the most suitable.
9 - EU Cookie LaW
Every WEB is obliged to notify the use of Cookies to comply with current legislation in Europe, and in that context here we have the most used plugin to display the typical cookie policy notice.
This plugin is very intuitive and easy to configure and does not put a lot of burden on our WordPress-based sites.
10 - Woocommerce
If you are thinking of setting up an online store based on WordPress this is your plugin. Its development group is great, with constant updates and an incredible evolution in ecommerce making it the best option to create online stores in WordPress.
Do you know any other plugin that is essential for WordPress?
If so, let me know in the comments and I will update the list to have the best list of “Essential WordPress Plugins”
