What is an IPS screen
It is a type of LCD panel that has an In-Plane Switching (variation in plane) system. In-Plane Switching or IPS panels are made up of crystals in cells that are arranged parallel to the plane of the panel. When the screen is turned on and it receives power, the crystals rotate 90º.
This technology was developed in 1996 to correct some of the problems presented by other types of panels. The most pressing and correcting IPS panels are:
- The reduced viewing angles of the old panels
- Appearance of colored spots when not looking at the front screen
- Poor representation of colors at steep angles
IPS displays feature a number of notable improvements over VA and TN technologies. The first great advantage is that the horizontal and vertical viewing angle can be 178º, allowing a wide viewing angle without color degradation.
Another of the most interesting features of IPS panels is that they offer very realistic colors. They have the ability to deliver very bright colors. These monitors usually receive the DisplayHDR certification.
