What is Coil Whine or electrical noise

The Coil Whine or electrical noise is a type of hissing sound that is usually given in graphics cards and power supplies that have windings

Computers are part of our daily lives and more and more people have extensive knowledge of these components. Occasionally we may encounter certain "problems" that we do not know how to identify. One of these problems is the Coil whine or electrical noise that is usually given in graphics cards and power supplies.

What is Coil Whine or electrical noise

It’s a type of electrical noise that occurs on the computer and which normally comes from the graphics card, although it may appear in other components like power supply or motherboard.

We can define it as a given electrical noise when electrical current passes through a winding, such as transformers and the coils themselves. In both cases, electromagnetic fields are generated that oppose. Some fields that can generate the physical vibration of the winding, which generates a slight hiss-like sound. It can occur in capacitors, although it is rare.

Usually this whistle is outside audible frequencies of the human being. When it becomes audible, it is quite annoying and the correction can be complex. A phenomenon that usually occurs when there is a large electricity consumption and therefore a heavy workload.

Why Coil White or Electrical Noise Occurs

This phenomenon occurs when a large current passes through a wound circuit. This phenomenon is natural and is normally outside the audible frequency range.

When the system has a high workload, energy consumption increases. As the current is increased, the electromagnetic fields increase markedly. This can generate the no visible vibration of conductors, generating the noise. Highlight that components are already thought for this factor.

It is quite common to see a kind of rubber surround around coils and capacitors. This simply dampens electrical noise. Some coils even have silicone "globs" to prevent coil whine.

I have to process the guarantee if I hear it

First of all, you should keep in mind that Coil White is completely normal, to a certain extent. If it is an "old" component, it may be normal due to intensive use of the component. In case of be very new (less than 12-16 months) it may be a problem or component defect.

Should this appear noise within days or weeks of installing, could be an indication of a component defect. If there is no workload excessive and this noise occurs easily, it could also be a symptom of a defect. This electrical noise is not normal either if we are 2-3 meters from our chassis.

Unfortunately there is no simple solution to correct Coil Whine.
