Data recovery
It allows the recovery of not only documents, but also photos and videos that have been lost or deleted. We only have to click on “Photo” in the “Multimedia Files” section. This allows us to generate a list with all the images that we can recover. We will also have a preview, being able to select the ones that interest us the most.
Effective file search
It implements an additional feature that allows you to find deleted files on the storage drive. Search for files by name and type. Additionally, it has the ability to verify if they are deleted files or existing files. We can also search for the deleted or lost data in a specific folder.
Additionally, the software allows you to search in a specific folder, indicating whether the files exist or would have been deleted. The tool has compatibility with hundreds of file types. If the type of file we are looking for does not appear, we can add it manually.
Drive scan
The software has two scanning methods. The quick scan can work for most data recovery cases. Then we have the detailed scan that has been designed to recover data on drives that have been formatted or corrupted. Something very interesting is that if the software cannot access the data with the quick scan, it automatically changes the scan in detail.
We can also choose the detailed scanning option in the lower left corner of the software. We can also do this from the “Location Selection” screen, where we also find the quick scanning option. During the scanning process, it is interesting to disable the preview to reduce the process time.
Classification of files
Obtaining recovered data in a disorganized and uncritical manner can be a problem for identifying them. For this purpose, Stellar recovery software has a “Filter Tree” that makes this operation easier.
Within the search results window, we can click on the “Filter Tree” tab available on the left panel. Here we can see all the filtering possibilities offered by this tool. We can specify file types, verification of existing files, deleted file options and set the approximate file size.
Recover data from a damaged drive
USB sticks and memory cards tend to be the most troublesome devices. Using Stellar recovery software we can try to recover as much information as possible from these drives.
The software allows to recover data from CF cards, Flash cards, SD cards without important the format and other portable memory units. Once the drive is connected and recognized, the software will display the list of drives from which you can recover data from Windows.
We can also preview all the files that can be recovered. We also have the option to “Recover deleted files” from an external storage drive.

Recovering from a lost partition
A very interesting option of the advanced version is the complete recovery of a lost partition. We can search for it using the “Drive Cannot Be Found” option within the “Other Locations” option.
A scan of the disk drive is performed to detect partitions that are missing due to accidental deletion or corruption of the same. After the scan is complete, all detected partitions will be listed in the partitions section.
If the partition we are looking for is not found, we will need to perform a “Deep Scan”. After this, the drive will appear and we can begin data recovery.
Optical Media Recovery
Optical media such as CDs and DVDs have the problem of being very delicate and scratching easily. In addition, they can present other problems such as heat damage or corruption. The professional version allows you to try to recover the files stored on the optical media.
Hard drive image
A very interesting option of this tool is to recover data from a hard drive with damaged sectors. We can create an image of the hard drive, logical volumes and any other media such as USB drives. But it also allows us to specify the sectors from which we want to create an image using the "Start" and "End" options.
How to use Stellar recovery software

- Run the software
- We choose the type of file that we want to recover. We can leave it as it comes or go to a specific file type
- Once the file type is chosen, we give Next
- We choose the unit from which we want to recover a file or from a location and we give Scanning
- Finish scanning the selected drive or folder
- We look for the folders or files to recover and we click the Recover button
- The software remembers that the free version only allows you to recover 1GB
- It will ask us for a secondary unit (not valid from which we are recovering data). Depending on the size, we will need a unit for data recovery of greater or lesser capacity
- We tell you to recover
- We wait a few moments for the process to finish
Advanced scanning in Stellar recovery software
If we can't find the folder or files we want, we can give the advanced scanning option that appears below. This process may take a while, depending on the number of files on the drive. If we deactivate the preview it will take a little less.
