What components of a PC use stainless steel? Can it also be used as a visual element?

Stainless steel has been one of the greatest advances in metallurgy. The fact of having a steel that is especially resistant to rust helped a lot to make machinery. Since it did not rust so much, the replacement of parts for agricultural, maritime machinery or any element that is at the mercy of the elements, is no longer so common.

Before, if something rusted, the parts had to be replaced for safety and hygiene reasons. It's not just that it's rusty and stains clothes and is much less manageable, it's that it could carry infections like tetanus. For this reason, the arrival of stainless steel made it possible to have a metal outdoors that was going to cause much less problems in the long term. It was also improved in terms of health and quality of life, and by far it is one of the greatest inventions that we do not appreciate enough or take into account.

Large components don't usually use it, but small parts do.

Although it is not common for the parts of a PC to be made of stainless steel, since components that are electricity transistors and heat conductors must be used, it is possible that many small parts or the tower itself are made of stainless steel .

A stainless steel tower is not a high priority, since it is a huge fixed piece that is made to house the components of a PC. It may be made of stainless steel, but it will be more of a curio for a very specific market, not so much for enthusiasts. A market that would be in humid conditions that greatly aggravate oxidation, but the metals used for the towers are already treated for this, or they simply use materials that do not rust, such as tempered glass or plastics of different roughnesses and hardness. .

Yes, there may be stainless steel in small parts. You know those screws you remove to open the lid? These use stainless steel, which is not expensive in small quantities, or other stainless alloys, since it is an element that is not mobile itself, but that must be moved to operate correctly to screw in, unscrew or simply keep the tower firm, the Rust can make the screw more fragile or that it does not yield when it is unscrewed to be able to change the components of the PC.

And the irons of the external connectors of the USB ports and connectors of the motherboard? Those can easily have stainless steel so that they do not rust and thus do not damage the devices. Stainless steel in the server environment

However, in a computer sector where stainless steel shines, it is in the server sector. not on the servers themselves, but on the premises. Everything that we have said that the pieces must resist without rusting in order to be useful and healthy, is increased. A server room is not simply a room in which numerous servers have been placed in racks with advanced cooling systems.


Since the cooling of a server cooling system can generate a lot of temperature stress, and even generating its own climate of high temperature and humidity, it is possible that an environment is generated that generates more oxidation in the pieces. This is why there are times when the racks and other elements of the server system, but we repeat, not the servers themselves; They need to use stainless steel. And it is that a server room is an extremely sensitive operation, and if any part rusts and becomes a structural or health hazard, a certain percentage of operations must be stopped to be able to exchange the affected parts and clean those that have not been cleaned. oxidized, but have had contact with rust.
