ASRock releases a BIOS update for its motherboards for AMD Ryzen processors, to make them compatible with Raven Ridge APUs, which will hit the market shortly.
The upcoming arrival of AMD's Raven Ridge APUs, which combine the Zen cores built into AMD Ryzen processors and AMD RX Vega graphics, are coming to market and major manufacturers are updating motherboards to support them. The last to announce the compatibility with the Raven Ridge has been ASRock, who has announced the availability of a new BIOS for current motherboards with socket AM4 and that will allow the installation of the new APUs, which will reach the market in a few days.
ASRock is the one that has introduced the most motherboards in the market for Zen-based processors, with a total of 18 motherboards that integrate the X370, B350 and A320 chipsets. The BIOS update will offer support for the Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G processors, so we will not have to buy a new motherboard, if we want to get one of these new processors with integrated graphics, which are considered as an ideal solution for the entry-level gaming range.
It also appears that AMD has created a special badge for manufacturers to integrate into their boxes, to easily identify which motherboard models are compatible with the new APUs. The badge can be included in motherboards with the X370n B350 and A320 chipset that are made available to customers with the new BIOS, so those who see this new badge on the boxes should not update the BIOS.
Finally, the 400 Series motherboards, which are scheduled to arrive during the second quarter of the year, will also have the badge of support for Raven Ridge processors and first generation Ryzen processors, despite being compatible with first generation.
