AMD in the latest Crimson ReLive 17.4.1 driver has implemented significant improvements in the performance of virtual reality under its graphics cards, to offer better experiences.

Currently AMD graphics cards, specifically the AMD RX 480, is the only one that supports more or less virtual reality, although it has a significant drop in the frame rate when making fast movements. We have already talked about the new Radeon Crimson ReLive Edition 17.4.1 drivers, which have been released recently. These drivers incorporate Asynchronous Spacewarp (ASW) and SteamVR Asynchronous Reprojection technologies to improve the performance of virtual reality on some accounts of the company's graphics cards.

Oculus ASW was announced in October last year and it reached the general public about a month later. This works by means of an extrapolation system of the frames, so the virtual reality experience can be executed more smoothly on slightly lower-powered equipment. The AMD ASW update focuses on the AMD R9 Fury Series, AMD R9 390 Series and AMD R9 290 Series graphics cards. These graphics cards are quite difficult to move virtual reality, due to its specific weight.

SteamVR Asynchronous Reprojection has similar traits with ASW, as it has been developed with the aim of creating a much smoother VR experience, allowing users to have a significant reduction in vibrations. When technologies differ, Asynchronous Reprojection shows us the last frame again (altered to suit the player's movement), instead of synthesizing a new plot. Support has also been added in this section for the RX 480 and RX 470 under Windows 10.

It should be noted that AMD is making great efforts in virtual reality, since it is present and future, so much so that AMD announced last month that they have collaborated with 20 Century Fox in the production of Alien: Covenant VR Experience.
