AMD Enhaced Sync, a technology similar to FreeSync, compatible with all monitors

AMD has developed Enhaced Sync technology, which improves latency in games, reduces tearing and also stuttering, allowing better fluidity in games.

Drivers are a fundamental element for graphics cards to perform better with the arrival of new games, introducing different optimizations. AMD has updated the graphics drivers, launching the Radeon Software Crimson ReLive 17.7.2 version, among which some important new features have been implemented, we assume that in part, to face the next arrival of the AMD RX Vega. The biggest novelty of these drivers is the implementation of an alternative function to VSync, which has been called Enhaced Sync and which will compete with NVIDIA FastSync technology.

This technology has been developed to help reduce tearing, latency and stuttering on all monitors that do not have FreeSync technology. In short, this improvement offers us a great improvement in fluidity when we are running a game and thus reduce or suppress the cuts that can be seen on the screen when there is a big jump in the frame rate. The great novelty regarding FreeSync is that Enhaced Sync is compatible with any monitor, so we will not need to spend money on a high-end monitor, on the contrary, any monitor on the market can serve us.

It should be noted that this technology is not the same as NVIDIA's FreeSync or G-Sync, we could say that Enhaced Sync is a technology that is below, but it is an excellent solution for those who cannot afford a € 300-400 monitor with such technologies. Anything to improve performance and avoid cuts and jumps during the game is certainly welcome. If we go to the AMD website, we can already find the new drivers with this integrated solution.

  1. I just tried it and there's a noticeable improvement in the image without enabling VSync in games. I just went crazy searching for Enhanced Sync in Crimson ReLive, and it turns out it's listed as "Improved Sync" in Spanish.
