AMD scraps the Primitive Shaders technology, which promised to avoid loading triangles that are not seen when we are playing, making the graphics card not have to do unnecessary calculations.
The AMD RX Vega are not exactly a marvel in the hardware market, far from it. Inflated prices, fairly fair performance, high consumption and uncontrolled temperatures, not to mention that custom models do not finish arriving and when they reach the market, it will have a really low factory overclocking. AMD was working on special software, which has been in development for months and nothing more was known about after it was announced at the presentation of the graphics card. Today the development of Primitive Shaders has been canceled.
This technology had the mission of making graphics cards perform unnecessary calculations. For Triple A games, it was an interesting feature, as in high-end games the textures are quite complex and meant using computing power for useless tasks. Primitive Shaders sought to eliminate the number of triangles that are shown, eliminating those that are far from the character, those that are behind us or any triangle that is not going to be shown on the screen.
Primitive Shaders will not be implemented separately, but will be released in a specific API patch. It will be the developers who will use this technology, which they consider very interesting, since they save development problems and reduce optimization, which is often quite regrettable.
AMD has not said why it is canceling this project. Possibly this will stay buried and we will never know anything about it again. Many consumers have shown dissatisfaction upon hearing this news, since they assembled their systems based on the company's plans. There is also speculation that the closure is that the function breaks when implemented in hardware and cannot be repaired.
