AMD announces during the GlobalFoundries Technology Conference that next year they will launch AMD Ryzen processors and AMD RX Vega graphics based on 12nm LP.
During the GlobalFoundries Technology Conference, AMD announced that they are working on the transition from AMD Ryzen processors and AMD RX Vega graphics to 12nm LP technology, for next year. Mark Papermaster, one of the top managers of AMD has been the one who in the conference working with GlobalFoundries on the production of the 12nm LP, which should start in the first quarter of 2018. It will be after this period when the second generation of Ryzen processors and Vega graphics on the market, surely, already in the second half of 2018.
AMD revealed during the FAD provision held before the summer, where it let see that they will launch two new generations of processors with Zen architecture. Zen 2 and Zen 3, will arrive in a manufacturing process of 7nm and 7nm +, respectively. AMD also plans to launch a Vega update next year, based on 12nm and by the end of the year Navi would arrive with 7nm and later an unknown architecture called 'next gen', based on 7nm and 7nm +. The problem is that Navi in 7nm seems to be difficult to get, especially because of the short time until Navi is launched, although it could be delayed for 2019.
Therefore, next year we will see a large number of products based on 12nm, since not only will the Ryzen and Vega arrive under this architecture, the NVIDIA Volta will also arrive under this manufacturing process. Intel will therefore be the only company to launch products in 10nm, such as Cannon Lake. What interests us in all this is to see how the Ryzen compete with the Cannon Lake and the Vega with the Voltas, the latter, which point to an unprecedented power.
