AMD publishes RDNA architecture whitepaper

The technical document that explains the RNDA architecture has been published by AMD, although in some interesting points it does not go into much detail.

This year, AMD has taken its first step toward launching efficient gaming graphics cards. The company has released the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT , which are a hybrid of RDNA and GCN architectures. The first native RDNA cards won't arrive until next year due to driver and game optimization issues. GCN has been a major drawback for the company, proving to be inefficient in games and power-hungry.

Graphics Core Next (GCN) mostly relies on task parallelization. This allows great power in mathematical calculations, but is not the best for games. The company tried to develop a solution suitable for the gaming segment and the professional segment. It is evident that he has not succeeded, staying by the wayside.

AMD unveils its RDNA architecture whitepaper

RDNA happens to be the future of the company and an important change in its priorities: everything for gaming. The company completely leaves GCN aside and has developed a graphics designed by and for gaming. These new graphics improve a lot in games, although unfortunately they are far from the high end of NVIDIA. Although many say it is not relevant, the high-end is the one that makes money.

Of course, the RDNA architecture document is completely in English and available on the company's website. A document that contains all the changes and basic concepts of the new architecture. It is true that many of the key aspects are not covered in depth. It is simply the presentation of the idea of the new architecture and the great changes.

There is part of the document that has already been explained by the company in conferences and another part has not yet been explained. The document explains how the new computing units are, the cache system, how the instructions are executed and their grouping, etc. Data is given on new features of new technologies, such as FidelityFX.
