AMD backs out and fixes Adrenalin Edition incompatibility with games that use DirectX 9

Where I said I say, I say Diego. AMD backs down in its statements and it will fix the problems with the DirectX 9 API in the new Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition drivers, which prevents them from running.

Yesterday we inaugurated the year commented that the latest AMD drivers, the Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition, had a serious problem and that is that they caused a large number of classic games that made use of the DirectX 9 API, they would not work with the latest graphics cards of the company. The affected titles, among others, are Command and Conquer (C & C3 Tiberium Wars; C & C3 Kane's Wrath; C & C Red Alert 3; C & C Red Alert 3 Upising and C & C4 Tiberian Twilight). It also affects classic strategy, such as The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth (first and second installments), The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, Sim City 2000 or the Neverwinter Nights

Thanks to the latest AMD Adrenalin Edition drivers, DirectX 9 games cannot be played

The problem, detected by users, was quickly publicized in the AMD forums and on Reddit. Instead of acknowledging the mistake and promising a solution, the company stoked the fire with a good dose of gasoline: 'These titles are from 2007, so it is unlikely that they will dedicate their resources to solving a problem that is probably caused by modules. Outdated APIs'.

When we told it, we already said that AMD would end up backing down, due to pressure from users and indeed, they have backtracked and updated the drivers to support all DirectX 9 games that until now did not work in Adrenalin. The main problem is not so much in DirectX 9, as we believed, part of the SAGE graphics engine in combination with the API. Terry Makedon from AMD said on Twitter: "We will certainly fix this bug with games based on the SAGE engine in an upcoming revision in the form of 'HoxFix'"

Logically, AMD had to back down, since they cannot afford more problems in the field of graphics, which they already have with Vega quite a few problems. It is possible that an update will be released in the coming days that will correct this slip of the company. Users increasingly want to enjoy retro gaming, a trend that is making a strong comeback, as evidenced by the return of Atari or the NES Mini.
