Within the AMD Open Source drivers for Linux, several lines of code have been seen that refer to the next AMD Vega 20, which would already be in an advanced stage of development.

The problem in the graphics card market is important, as it is difficult to buy a graphics card, due to low stock and high prices. The lack of competition is the other problem and that is that NVIDIA has deliberately delayed the launch of new GPUs for two reasons: AMD with its RX Vega 10 does not compete with its Pascals and the Pascals are extremely powerful GPUs. AMD seems to be working on solving the problem and they are already developing the Vega 20, which will be based, as planned, on 7nm, although it will be seen. We know this thanks to the Open Source drivers from AMD.

Within the Open Source drivers from AMD, published on March 28, several lines of code have been found that refer to the Vega 20 chips. These are nothing new, since we know that AMD has them in its Roadmap and that they take time working on them. Theoretically, these new GPUs should be based on 7nm, but this process is quite green, so it is possible that they will opt for 10nm, for these chips, which combine the GPU and HBM2 memories in the same package, through an interposer system.

Going to a more advanced manufacturing process should solve one of the great problems of Vega GPUs and that is the zero energy efficiency, since the Vega 64 consume almost twice as much as a GTX 1080 Ti and its performance is between the GTX 1070 and the GTX 1080. It should also improve the performance, although we will see to what degree and the overclocking capacity, quite bad in the current Vega.

It is likely that AMD reserves the Vega 7nm GPUs, for the professional sector, a key sector for the company and where it seems to be doing moderately well, leaving the Vega 10nm, for gaming. Be that as it may, AMD needs a miracle right now, since NVIDIA has waited for the GDDR6 to launch new graphics and these aim to be true monsters.
