Ampere, the new processor company based on the 64-bit ARM architecture

A new chip manufacturer is born, called Ampere, whose processors are based on the 64-bit ARM architecture and are intended for Data Center systems, where it wants to compete with other large companies.

A new company has emerged from nowhere, it seems that it was initially focused on the processor market. This new company, which emerged by surprise, is Ampere. Ampere, is a recently created company developed by a former Intel executive, who has developed a processor for servers based on 64-bit ARM, which will compete with solutions from companies with a long history and experience, such as Qualcomm and HP Enterprise. , among others.

ARM is a very important part of the new solution developed by Ampere. This type of processor design offers great energy efficiency and a very low cost. The problem that ARM-based processors have is the limitation in terms of applications that can work under this design, something that is being solved by developers.

The first Ampere processor has a 8-bit ARM v64 custom core that can reach a frequency of 3.3GHz and allows you to install up to 1TB of RAM, all with a TDP of 125W. Ampere is fabless and its production will begin sometime in the second half of 2018. Ampere's vice president of software and platform engineering, Kumar Sankaran, has explained that: 'Historically, it has been 8 to 10 years for a new architecture works in data centers. You need the software ecosystem that follows the hardware. ' This is the reason given why Ampere is based on ARM technology. Sankaran says that ARM in data centers is like x86 processors years ago.

Ampere directly targets common data center workloads, especially AI, big data, and even next-generation systems. The top managers of the company are the Chief Architect, Atiq Bajwa; CFO / COO, Chi Miller and EVP of Hardware Engineering, Rohit Vadwans.
