This is how Animal Crossing New Horizons decides when a neighbor wants to leave

Want to know when a neighbor from your Animal Crossing New Horizons island is going to want to leave? How has already been calculated.

A few days ago the formula that calculates the objects it will bring was discovered Sly the Righteous and his art gallery full of fake objects. The same user has now drawn the formula that the game has for a neighbor to ask you to move to another island.

These are the conditions for a neighbor to leave

First off, players must have at least 6 Villagers on their Animal Crossing New Horizons island before any of them will consider moving. On any given day, the percentage chance that a Villager will request to leave the island is determined by the formula “(V * 5) + C” where:

  • "V" is the number of villagers the players have
  • "C" is the number of days since the player last told a villager to leave or stay on the island (maximum 30).

This formula is depleted when a neighbor tells you they want to leave and there is a 5-day cooldown after telling a villager to leave or stay before this formula takes effect again. That is why it is said that if you want to force a neighbor to leave, advance the console clock by five days.

This calculation can be skipped by restarting Animal Crossing New Horizons mid-conversation before telling the Villager to move or stay, the game will run the formula again the next day.

The formula also has a cooling to avoid emptying the island too fast. During the fifteen days after a villager officially leaves the island and liberates a housing plot, it will not activate.

If the conditions for the first formula above to operate are met, the game will choose a random villager who will ask you to stay. The chances of each villager being chosen is based on friendship levels, determined by another formula “((300-a) + r)” where:

  • "A" is the average friendship the player has with all residents of the island.
  • “R” is the number of residents with more than 200 friendship points.

Friendship values range from 0 to 255, starting at 25, which means that the chance to move starts at 27 and decreases as friendship levels increase.

Villagers will be excluded from the possibility of moving if the following conditions are met:

  • Your home is moving to a new place.
  • His birthday was in the last 7 days.
  • They were chosen by the formula that chooses them to want to leave the last time and they were told to stay on the island.
  • He is the one who has most recently moved to the island.

There are many formulas, but this way they make sure that the neighbors of Animal Crossing New Horizons who we have the most affection do not leave and that they do not leave us very quickly. It is a very complicated formula at first and too much work for those who simply want to play casually. But it does shed a bit of light on how the game works, especially for the more dedicated ones who want a certain neighbor to go away.
