A federal court in Texas has ordered Apple to pay $ 308 million for infringement of digital rights patents, or DRM, in the iTunes service. Given this result, Apple has decided to appeal it so that this trial will extend several sessions and calls before having a firm result.

Late on Friday, federal jurors in Texas ordered Apple to pay royalties to PMC, which are typically based on the amount of sales of a product or service. Apple has said it is not satisfied with the verdict and planned to appeal. It said: “these types of lawsuits based on companies that simply patent instead of offering services and products, attack their innovation and consumers«.
PMC, a company dedicated to the registration of licenses, sued Apple in 2015 alleging that the iTunes service of the technology giant infringed seven of its registered patents. Apple successfully challenged PMC's case in the United States patent office, but an appeals court in March last year reversed that decision. It is what has caused this result that makes Apple have to pay 308 million for breaching these patents.
Having appealed the result, it will go to a higher court. PMC may continue to accuse Apple of breaching its patents on iTunes. This case will continue until no further appeal can be made or one of the parties decides to be fully satisfied with the result and accept the fine in the case of Apple, or to accept Apple's defense of using the DRM registered by the PMC company.
