Some Sony televisions start to receive Apple TV. They are the first Android devices to receive streaming from Cupertino officially and it is expected that it will eventually reach more terminals.
Apple is making its way into the market for streaming TV series and movies, and that means debuting apps on other platforms. This week the Apple TV application has reached Android TV on at least some Sony Bravia models.
A few days ago, rumors of the launch of the Apple TV application began to leak, which reached some models of Sony televisions in Brazil through a recent firmware update. It is not a widespread deployment by any means, but it is certainly encouraging to see the rollout begin. Very surely it will end up reaching the rest of the models in the rest of the regions.
Services in the competitor's operating system
Since all Sony smart TVs run on Google's Android TV platform, this is also the first time the Apple TV app has been available on Android devices. However, we don't expect Apple to release this app for Android smartphones anytime soon. Its availability on Android TV will likely remain limited to Sony devices. In particular, in a recent conversation with Nvidia, it seemed there were no concrete plans to bring Apple TV to the NVIDIA Shield at this time.
Sony's Apple TV app for Android TVs allows users to watch TV shows and movies they have purchased from iTunes, as well as access the new Apple TV + streaming service when it debuts in early November. This same app recently debuted for Amazon Fire TV and Roku as well. Sooner or later it will end up officially coming out on Android when they see that they can get money from a greater number of users.
