Arctic Sound and Jupiter Sound would be the graphics that Raja Koduri works on at Intel

Intel, and more specifically, Raja Koduri, would be working on Arctic Sound and Jupiter Sound, new graphics solutions from the company, which are proposed as a high-performance solution.

Specter and Meltdown have plunged Intel into a rather complicated spiral, but despite this bad moment for the company, Intel is working on its own graphics cards. We recently got to know the Kaby Lake G processors with AMD's graphics chip based on the RX Vega architecture and shortly after, Raja Koduri, who was director of the Radeon Technologies division, landed at the company and whose mission is to develop his own graphics. It seems that the company does not want to be without its share of the GPU market pie and for that it is investing a lot of capital.

We are currently in the 9th Generation of processors, but information has been leaked about the 12th Generation and 13th Generation graphics chips, whose iGPUs are called Arctic Sound and Jupiter Sound. These graphics solutions would be a complete restructuring and would come to remove Radeon graphics from Intel processors, so the alliance begins to have its days numbered. It seems that, despite being a beneficial agreement for Intel, the one they have reached with AMD, they do not intend to prolong this situation for a long time.

The company's processors and graphics would be based on different architectures and would be developed separately, combining in a package and communicating using EMIB technology, the same that is used in current Kaby Lake G that have RX Vega graphics. It seems that Koduri is working hard and is laying the foundations for a great leap in the field of graphics at Intel and it is that of course, with 'unlimited' money, the potential of the leading processor company and a team only working on this, wonders can be done. Of course, it will take about three years to see the first product of these characteristics.

  1. These aren't their plans, but developing an architecture from scratch doesn't happen overnight. Not to mention that AMD, and let's not even talk about Nvidia, their current architectures were achieved thanks to years of work and trial and error.

So in my opinion I do not think we will soon see an Intel chip with competent Intel graphics, at least in the short term.
