New data from the Atari console, which in the end will be called Atari VCS and which, possibly, will start the pre-sale sometime in April.
The return of the retro is spreading like wildfire and nobody wants to be left out of the return of the classic, not even the mythical Atari, which returns this year with a console. Initially this console was baptized as Atari Box, but in the end it reached the market with the name of Atari VCS. This console is inspired, how could it be otherwise, in the Atari 2600, even a version made entirely of wood will be sold, to give it an even more retro look.
This new Atari VCS will be based on an AMD processor, which not specified yet and as an operating system it will use Linux. As it cannot be otherwise, the console will implement a large number of classic Atari titles, but in addition, it will also offer a computer experience directly on television.
Despite its retro design, the Atari VCS has the latest technologies, such as HDMI video output, several USB ports, Ethernet port, SD card reader and even 802.11ac WiFi connectivity. The console, at the moment, does not have a launch date, but the company will give the pre-sale date of the console next April of this year. This process should have started on December 14, but the company announced a delay, to better develop the platform and improve the ecosystem of the console.
We see that this new Atari console will arrive with two different controls, one with a current design, similar to that of the Xbox One and another that reminds us of the mythical control of the reputed Atari 2600. Now we only need to know the entrails of the beast, although everything points to some AMD APU, based on Ryzen cores and RX Vega graphics.
