Athena, the CIA spyware uncovered by WikiLeaks, is more dangerous than WannaCry

Athena, the spyware developed by the CIA and that has been leaked to the public opinion by WikiLeaks, noting that the WannaCry ransomware is only a thin layer of a great onion of cyberterrorism.

The WannaCry ransomware has allowed users to discover that there is a latent danger in the network and that we have to be aware of threats and take minimal security measures to prevent sabotage of our equipment. There is news in the world of security, thanks to WikiLeaks, which has published a lot of information about the American intelligence services and the dark practices they use. Through the Vault7 program, it presents programs developed by the CIA to make use of vulnerabilities in systems.

The latest news has been the leak of Athena, a spyware developed by the CIA. WikiLeaks has reported on this tool, which aims to be the most powerful currently developed by the CIA. This tool is a spyware and what makes it especially problematic is that it is capable of working with multiple versions of the most used operating system in the world, such as Windows. This would work from Windows XP to Windows 10, allowing access to the vast majority of computers in the world.

Athena works in a fairly simple way, infecting computers in order to take control of it. This allows a user to remotely have full control of the equipment and allows the user to do whatever they want with the equipment. The data that is taken from the equipment is sent directly to the CIA servers. The data that the CIA stores and deletes has not been disclosed, but it would not be a surprise if they had it stored just in case. We are talking about a spyware that has its origin in 2016 and what has been leaked is a manual of the same written at the beginning of 2016, but there are reports that date it to 2015.

These dates coincide with the official launch of Windows 10 by Microsoft. One of the peculiarities is that it has been written in Python and is just one of the tools to control and obtain data illegally developed by the 'insecurity' bodies of the United States. We don't know how many more of these will exist today or in the future developed by these opaque agencies and the data they will have stolen.
