Battlefield: no new installment until 2021
Until fiscal year 2022 there will be no sequel to Battlefield V. Electronic Arts will focus on Apex Legends for next year.
Electronic Arts has been giving tax data to its shareholders. As they have to build trust and explain their future plans to them, we can officially know several of the plans they have regarding future launches. One of the data they have given at that conference is that they do not expect to release a new Battlefield until at least 2021.
No Battlefield for two more years
At the shareholders' conference they have commented that they expect the next title of the Battlefield franchise for fiscal year 2022. For Electronic Arts its fiscal year runs from April to March, with which the new Battlefield installment is already expected for the year 2021 , possibly for the end, since this is when these types of titles usually come out.
The reason hasn't been made clear, but we can imagine it's because Battlefield 5 didn't achieve strong sales despite reportedly selling seven million copies. They attributed this to the story mode's ineffective marketing and the lack of a battle royale mode.
In addition, it is to be expected that they will not want to release a title next year since that is when PlayStation 5 comes out and they want to have time to make a game that is up to the task and meets expectations. To fill that void this year and next they have a plan: Apex Legends. With that game and its regular updates they can have an active multiplayer shooter until DICE can release the new Battlefield for fall 2021, and if Fortnite has shown us anything, it is that these free games can give many benefits and stay active for a long time.
