BIOSTAR M200 M.2, a compact and discreet performance unit

BIOSTAR enters the M.2 SSD market, with the BIOSTAR M200 M.2 with SATA 3 connection interface, which does not offer the performance that an M.2 should, but which can be a quality solution for compact computers and discreet.

SSD drives are becoming more and more popular. BIOSTAR wants to join the fight for M.2 SSD drives, with the BIOSTAR M200 M.2 Series solid state drive, which has been designed for high performance, low-profile applications and has been developed with notebooks in mind. , SFF equipment and HTPC equipment.

These new M200 Series drives offer great performance, but on the other hand they make use of the SATA 3 de3 6Gb / s interface and do not make use of the PCIe Gen3 x4 technology. This means that the performance it will offer will be quite similar to that of a 2.5 ”SSD when using a 3GB / s SATA 6 interface. It is perhaps not the best solution on the market in terms of SSDs, since it does not use the PCIe Gen3 x4 port, which would offer a really higher and more significant performance.

It will not be the best solution in the world, that is clear, but as a compact hard disk drive in M.2 format, it is a great solution, that with the right price, as soon as it is released, we are surely facing an interesting option for discreet teams. Regarding performance, it should be noted that BIOSTAR's M200 Series drives offer a sequential read of up to 530Mb / s, while the write speed is reduced to 410MB / s for the 240GB drive. The 120GB drives will have a sequential write speed of up to 380Mb / s.

It has a Marvell controller, which is not one of the best on the market, but which is more than enough solution for this unit. The availability of these units has not yet been revealed, as well as their price, which is currently unknown.

  1. If the price is good and the durability is respectable, I would not mind increasing the performance assuming that today there are many desktop / desktop computers and laptops that still use mechanical disks (HDD), which is a big bottleneck in the overall performance of a computer regardless of the type of CPU.
