Biostar has just announced the launch of three assembler-type AMD RX Vega and announces them as ideal for 4K gaming and for mining cryptocurrencies, the latter, not entirely true.

A press release has just been released by Biostar announcing the launch of graphics cards based on the AMD RX Vega architecture. Three models are launched, the Biostar RX Vega 56 (VAVAL5VM88), the Biostar RX Vega 64 with air cooling (VAVAT5VM88) and the version with liquid cooling (VAVAX5VM88). The models are the AMD reference, without any modification. The interesting thing comes in the part where it says that these graphics are excellent for 5K games and one of the best graphics cards on the market for mining cryptocurrencies.

We thought that this had already been clear for weeks, but it seems that Biostar is to something else. The RX Vega are possibly the worst graphics cards on the market, by mining power, by electrical consumption and by price. A RX 570/580 is much better, but right now the best valued for mining cryptocurrencies are the GTX 1060, GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 Ti, since they are the best under the Equihash protocol, on which cryptocurrencies such as Zcash, Bitcoin Gold or Komodo.

Regarding 4K gaming, with RX Vega, yes, it performs better than NVIDIA solutions, but in a limited number of titles and with DirectX 12 and Vulkan, not to say that, for example, not even 0.5% of users Steam plays at this resolution, so it is not a relevant aspect either, which although it is positive for those who want to play 4K, for ordinary mortals, it is not relevant. The positive is that it is compatible with FreeSync technology, which guarantees a fluid image within the game.

Biostar has certainly not been very successful in promoting the AMD RX Vega that they have launched on the market and more if we take into account that they are the assembler models, models that are not flashy and whose heatsink, by air, although it is quality, as we wear, maybe a custom model, but as there is not on the market, because AMD has not distributed the GPUs to assemblers on time. The RX Vega aimed very high and are clearly a failure in sales and performance.
