Bitmain raises $ 50 million to expand beyond Bitcoin

Bitmain gets a new investment of 50 million dollars from several venture capital firms, to expand its business network beyond Bitcoin and jump into the manufacture of chips for AI and open mining farms in the United States.

Cryptocurrency mining has its lights and its shadows. Ethereum and Zcash are the two best cryptocurrencies to be mined with a graphics card, others are mined with a hard disk like Storj and some with a processor. Bitcoin today is only feasible to be mined with ASIC, but the problem with mining this cryptocurrency is the high consumption of these machines, something that prevents it from being profitable in many places, except in China, where energy has an almost zero cost and yes it is profitable. Well, Bitmain, the world's largest mining company based in China, could receive an investment of 50 million dollars.

According to information from Bloomberg, the world's largest Chinese mining company that develops specific hardware for mining, could receive a significant investment of capital, including Sequoia Capital, ING Capital and other investors that have not been disclosed and that the number of investors would increase. According to Bloomberg, they would also be developing special chips for Artificial Intelligence and would also consider setting up mining farms in the United States, but the type of currency has not been specified.

An anonymous source to this medium has commented that the companies that have invested capital will also offer management advice to Bitmain as part of the agreement reached. Bitmain currently we must emphasize that it is the second most important mining set and wants to improve when it comes to analyzing blocks and thus obtain the Bitcoin as a reward. The first position is held by Antpool, another miner from the Asian giant that has more than 15% of the network's power. This is a problem as practically all of Bitcoin's mining power is in China and that is not good.
