# CES2018: HTC Vive 4K, the first virtual reality glasses with 4K resolution
HTC will present new virtual reality glasses at CES 2018, they will be the HTC Vive 4K, the first on the market to receive a 4K screen, although we will need new hardware to use them.
Virtual reality for PC is still a minority and it is that not only do you have to take into account the price of the platform in question, you also have to take into account the high price of the hardware to move virtual reality in a fluid way. A hardware that should now be more powerful, since a new model of HTC Vive arrives, which were the first to reach the market. These virtual reality glasses that update and on January 8, during CES 2018 in Las Vegas, the HTC Vive 4K will be presented.
These new virtual reality glasses have been announced on Twitter and it will be a model that will arrive this year, although it does not have a specific arrival date. The biggest novelty of these Vive 4K virtual reality glasses is, as the name suggests, 4K resolution, which is unknown if it will be by eye. Be that as it may, the important thing is that an important leap will be made in terms of image quality, since current helmets have a resolution of 1080 × 1200 pixels per eye. The new display will offer a total refresh rate of 90Hz, which is equivalent to 45FPS per eye, maximum.
As we said, the negative aspect is that this new desire for virtual reality will require much better hardware, to be able to offer a 4K resolution and a rate of 90FPS. We know the NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti, it has problems to offer more than 40FPS (in the best case) and the RX Vega 64, they do not arrive either, so graphic hardware will be required that is not yet on the market (Volta, possibly) . We assume that as the year progresses, we will learn more data.
