Explosion at a Russian military base involving radioactive material

They record an explosion at a military base in Russia, something that would not be more important if it weren't for the radioactive material involved.

The most important nuclear disaster in all history was the one that took place in Chernobyl on April 26, 1986. Since then, safety at nuclear power plants has intensified greatly, although they continue to pose a risk. Although not much is said about this incident, on August 10 there were a series of explosions at a military base in Russia.

One may think that this incident is not very remarkable, but things change when it is known that there are nuclear radioactive materials. It is not known for sure what happened in the military base close to the city of Severodvinsk. The few details that the Russian government has given, speak of five dead civilians and two military men.

Explosion at a military base in Russia involving radioactive material

The strange explosion has occurred in a weapons testing field that would have "involved radioactive materials." The statement from Rosatom, Russia's nuclear power company, speaks of five workers and two soldiers killed. There is not much more information about it.

As with the Chernobyl disaster, the Russian government is giving the smallest details of the incident. Rosatom has only said that what happened is "the result of an incident in a test field in the Arkhangelsk region"

These facilities are near the city of Severodvinsk. Within the city, radiation levels 20 times higher than usual have been detected over a period of half an hour. This Russian city would be home to 185 people and they would be storing iodine, which is used to mitigate the effects of radiation on people.

A situation that is going quite unnoticed and that is not being talked about much. We will see what happens in the next few days and if the Russian government stops being so opaque about this kind of thing.
