Media Molecule closes Dreams, the game creator game for PS4

After success with Little Bug Planet, Media Molecule brought the game Dreams to PS4. More than a game, it was an engine where users could create their own games of any genre they could think of. They just needed to follow the instructions and work hard to create the game they had in mind.

It never became a game of great depth, not even because of the idea of being a lurker and playing everything you can see without contributing anything, as was already done in Little Big Planet. It came to have a dedicated community, some of them creating games so amazing that they ended up being hired by different studios.

Dreams ends without reaching PC and almost rendering the game useless

In an article posted on the game's official website, the studio has explained that “has made the difficult decision to discontinue live support for Dreams after September 1, 2023 to focus on an exciting new project“. Dreams players will be able to continue playing, creating and sharing content after the closure on September 1st. But the game will not receive any further updates after that date.

The game will also migrate to a new server at the end of May. At that moment, players will have a 5 GB storage limit for their creations. Current player creations will not count towards this limit. Uploads after server migration will count toward your storage limit.

Media Molecule points out that Dreams will not be withdrawn from sale on September 1, and that the game will continue to be available for purchase. He also says that he is working on a totally new project, stressing that “We're not ready to talk about this yet, but we can confirm that it's not Dreams 2, nor the Dreams IP.".

Speaking of the decision to end support, the study's statement reads: “SWe know this will not be an easy message for everyone to hear, and it certainly hasn't been an easy decision. Dreams has been a special project for Media Molecule, and helping this burgeoning community of game developers, tinkerers, creatives, contributors, and dreamers grow and express themselves is still one of the best things we've ever done. Thanks for being a part of it with us – we hope you'll join us on our next adventure.. "
