# Computex2017: Intel Coffee Lake processors will have six cores and share the LGA1151 socket

Intel Coffee Lake processors will arrive with a maximum of six cores, a new chipset, but with the same socket as the Kaby Lake and Skylake, therefore there will be compatibility between motherboards and sixth, seventh and eighth generation processors.

Computex 2017 has been characterized as the event chosen by Intel and AMD to present new processors and talk about what is to come. Among the novelties we find the eighth generation of Intel processors, the Intel Coffee Lake, some processors that have the mission of replacing the current Kaby Lake, some processors that, as we well know, are passing with more pain than glory, especially to the Note that I publish Intel denying the obvious temperature problems of the i7 7700K, although the Pentium G4560 is an excellent processor, one of lime and another of sand.

Coffee Lake is based on a 14nm retrofit that has also been used on Kaby Lake and Skylake. These processors will use the LGA1151 socket, just like their predecessors, although here we find a chipset change, going to the Z370, about which we don't know much. What we do know is that Coffee Lake processors will be compatible with Kaby Lake and Skylake motherboards, and in turn the processors of these two mentioned families will be compatible with Coffee Lake motherboards. Generally speaking, we shouldn't see a huge difference in motherboard design between Kaby Lake and Coffee Lake.

The Coffee Lake should arrive somewhere between the second half of this year and the first quarter of 2018, as Intel finishes developing and refining the 10nm manufacturing process for the Cannon Lake. These new Intel processors will be characterized by arriving with a maximum of six cores and twelve processing threads, although we do not know in what scale of cores / threads each of the different groups of Intel processors will move.

Regarding the Z370 chipset, we know that this will be a chipset developed to support up to six cores, which will be the top in this new family. It will not have Quad Channel support, something that does not surprise us, the number of PCIe lines will be greater than in Kaby Lake, but less than in Basins Falls, obviously, being a platform developed for the general public. Finally, on Coffee Lake, we know that the K series quad and six core processors will have a TDP of 95W, while those without the 'K', which the OC allows, will have a TDP of 65W.

As I said... from my point of view it seems to me that Intel's move is a re-re-rehash called coffelake, where the possible improvements range from slight adjustments to the chipset that allow it to better control the temperature, adjustments to the production node with the same temperature issue and various minimum adjustments, now with respect to performance, given that it would be very little in reality what they could stretch the frequency, it would be to cover the entire range, that is, an i7 renamed to i5, the i5 to i3, all of these with a slight frequency cut to give greater margin between range and an i7 with at least 2 cores while maintaining prices!!

I think there will be a change, the "change" from Kaby Lake was absolutely none. Also, it's obvious that if you already have a good processor like the sixth generation i7 or I would even say earlier ones, you're not going to upgrade to these, then you'll have to wait for the ninth generation.
      Likewise, if Intel can lower prices, it is already over, in games it continues to win and for jobs with the extreme range it will surely also be better, so the only thing that amd wins is for the price.

If obviously it is not something very important but it is something good, and a good improvement to a processor that is already very good seems to me a good option, as I said more than anything in the i5 if they maintain prices they would be a beast for 1080p 60hz (most of the people and something that intel lacks to compete with ryzen in that range). Changes like this are more acceptable than minimum frequencies as they did with kaby lake that should not exist.
