NVIDIA Max-Q, the new technology developed by NVIDIA to make gaming laptops up to three times more compact and up to three times more powerful, can be a revolution in gaming laptops, which until now, were true bricks.
Gaming laptops are becoming popular and NVIDIA is aware of this trend and does not want anything to escape it, which is why it has developed NVIDIA Max-Q, a solution to develop gaming laptops with a thickness of less than 18mm. The idea is that these very compact laptops can house an NVIDIA GTX 1080 graphics card, to be able to play anything. This was born thanks to a new component design system developed by NVIDIA that makes it possible to manufacture quieter, faster and thinner gaming laptops.
This is an important advance when it comes to the development of components for gaming, as well as being a revolution for the laptop market, which is quite stagnant and with ultrabooks that have not finished taking off as previously thought. This will also make it possible to reduce the size of compact computers, an upward trend in recent years, and in systems that use low-power hardware. Logically, it will not only reduce the thickness of the laptops, this will also reduce the weight, since 4Kg gaming equipment does not usually go down and we have seen moles of more than 10Kg, but with this solution it will go down to approximately 2Kg something that will appreciate above all, our back.
NVIDIA has confirmed that fifteen gaming laptops are being developed and that there are another forty that will use this NVIDIA hardware and that they will be able to be seen during Computex 2017. These laptops with Max-Q technology will arrive on June 27. It is not clear what changes with this technology, but it seems that it is a new system of manufacturing portable equipment, improving cooling and optimizing space in search of greater efficiency. Smaller graphics based on Pascal will be implemented with a 16nm architecture and GDDR5X memory.
It will also come with WhisperMode technology, which is an idea from NVIDIA to make gaming laptops even quieter when gaming. The three graphics that will enter this game will be the GTX 1080, GTX 1070 and GTX 1060, which are the most powerful on the market. Behind Max-Q laptops, we will see heavyweights such as Acer, Alienware, ASUS, ECT, Gigabyte, HP, Lenovo, Maingear, MSI and Origin PC, as the most prominent companies.
During the Keynote a demo was made on an ASUS team moving Project Cars 2 without major problems and according to Huang, the boss of NVIDIA, these teams will be 60% more powerful than the PlayStation 4 Pro (something for which it is not necessary to run much). This can undoubtedly be the definitive take-off of gaming laptops, which have been growing since last year and are becoming a market trend.
