Nintendo Releases Update To Kill 3DS Hacking But Hackers Take It Down Within Days

A few weeks ago Nintendo decided to effectively remove all support for the Nintendo 3DS. They took away your access to the digital game store, so now the only legal way to play new games is by throwing second hand. The console, over the years, became something easy to hack; and that way became the only way to access the extensive exclusive digital catalog that it had, among which are some DLCs that extend commercial games, such as the one for Fire Emblem Fates that opens the third route of the game.

A few days ago, Nintendo released a new firmware update for the 3DS, 11.17-0-50. What was Nintendo's intention? It did not add anything, nor did it remove access to the eShop from the standard, with which it was seen that it was an update only to hinder the hacking of the console.

Nintendo loses in less than two days to the 3DS hacking community

This confrontation between hackers and Nintendo has been going on for years, and in this latest chapter, Nintendo released an update to prevent hacking of a console that had already withdrawn game support. It is true that it allows repairs, but this support has an end date. What matters is that right now, hacking is the only way to access hundreds of exclusive games, many of them are from Nintendo itself and that are referenced in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in the form of spirits.

Well, this time the fight lasted very little, because in less than 48 hours, it was already found that if you had the hacked Nintendo 3DS from before, the 11.17-0-50 update would not affect you. And a specific exploit was also developed for this 11.17-0-50.

Nintendo no longer makes direct profit from selling digital 3DS games, they can't even be found in stores as novelties anymore, so this was a move against hackers. The console has reached the end of its life cycle, and people want to be able to play the games that they have not had the time or opportunity to play. This is why hacking and emulation are highly important, so that hundreds of thousands of people in the future can play console classics and hidden gems. Or simply any game they want and that is no longer in legal distribution, such as children's license games.
