AMD Flute: Filtered the alleged Microsoft Project Scarlett APU, which shows that 4K @ 120Hz is science fiction on consoles
The AMD Flute APU appears, which supposedly will give life to the Microsoft Project Scarlett and makes it clear that 4K @ 120Hz is nothing more than a fantasy.
Despite the fact that the console industry is in decline, Microsoft and Sony insist on launching new platforms. These will be based on custom APUs made by AMD. These new consoles must face PC gaming, which grows year by year, and Google Stadia. The next generation of consoles promises 4K @ 120Hz with upscaling to 8K at one point. Something that seems like science fiction right now.
For a while the AMD Flute SoC has appeared in the UserBenchmark database. There has been a lot of talk about this processor with integrated graphics. Everything indicates that it would be the APU of the Microsoft's Project Scarlett console.
AMD Flute, the possible processor of the Project Scarlett is seen in UserBenchmark
Recently AMD has released the Ryzen 3000 processors based on Zen2 @ 7nm. These new processors, with a few shortcomings, offer a better performance / price ratio than Intel solutions. Along with these processors have come the Navi @ 7nm that use a hybrid between RDNA and GCN. It won't be until next year that we have fully RDNA charts.
According to the leaked data in the benchmark software, AMD's Flute will have 8 cores and 16 threads. The data indicates that it will work at a base frequency of 1.6GHz and will arrive in Boost mode at 3.2GHz. These frequencies are the same as the Gonzalo APU created by AMD to give life to the PlayStation 5.
The leak indicated a Navi 10 Lite chart. Little is known about this silicon, but it is speculated that it would be a Radeon RX 5700 with fewer Stream Processors. Supposedly the graphics of the future PlayStation 5 would be working at 1.8GHz. Project Scarlett will also use 16GB GDDR6 for the entire system and an SSD to improve load times.
Considering the data, the promise of 4K @ 120Hz is sheer nonsense bullshit. The AMD RX 5700 XT already suffers in many cases to deliver 4K @ 60Hz, a trimmed version of the RX 5700 seems difficult to reach 4K @ 30FPS. Microsoft and Sony insist on selling surreal motorcycles. But it is true that cutting down on graphic quality everything can be achieved, something that is done a lot on consoles.
