Atari VCS is modified, eliminating the SD card and adding two USB ports

They modify the design and hardware of the Atari VCS, simplifying its construction, eliminating the SD card for two USB ports for peripherals.

Retro gaming is making a comeback and it is doing so with great force. A clear example is the Atari console, the new Atari VCS, which should have already been launched, but is not yet ready. This console has a very attractive and modern design, with a retro touch. To bring it to life an AMD Ryzen APU will be used, which has caused this console to be delayed. Now the developers have announced that the chassis design has been modified to reduce costs and speed up production.

Atari modifies the Atari VCS case

The dimensions of the console have been reduced, going from almost 37cm high to just 31.2cm wide. The width has also been modified, going from 13.4cm to 15cm wide. The thickness of the console also goes from 4cm to 5cm. They have highlighted that this modification is due to facilitate the production of the console.

This modification affects the interface of the same, eliminating the SD card, but two USB 3.0 ports are gained on the front. We must remember that this console will work based on Linux, so it is a hybrid between console and computer. It will allow these USB ports to connect peripherals such as keyboard and mouse, phone charging and other peripherals.

“The recently updated Atari VCS 2019 construction method retains the buckle and rib of our original design, but simplifies the case components to four primary pieces: an upper case, a lower case, and front and back panels. This construction is stronger, uses much less material, which reduces plastic waste, and has shorter and more accurate assembly times. "

On the other hand the console has been delayed several, since it should have arrived last year and is now scheduled for the end of this year. We'll see what this console finally offers, but interest may be low.
